THE AIR HELD A SLIGHT BREEZE blowing northeast. the summer night felt immensely calm, the empty space and simple weather hugging the city and its people with serenity. very quiet footsteps sounded within the area, followed by the reverberations of a door closing.

the sky seemed to be devoid of stars, its pure blackness fabricating a blanket over the rest of the universe. following the prior footsteps from earlier, it's obvious that they're taking their time—pace steady, hands shoved in their jacket pockets, head turning slowly from each end of the building, eyes gazing at everything to observe with admiration.

they took in a deep breathe, feeling satisfied as their lungs expanded and contracted, their ears listening to the distant noise of the breeze blowing their hair to the side [rip if you don't have hair just ignore this part or whatever. you know the deal by now] and any noises arising in the city if they could catch it. their steps continued to walk along the roof of the oval stadium, planning to trek around the over 270-acre, gigantic beast of a building they used to work in.

currently, it feels almost obscure—like they were walking through a fever dream—looking down in the utterly desolate stadium, all of the beaming lights turned off, seats empty, no race cars parked inside—not even in the pits. it was an abandoned building now, and they were walking on its roofs like nothing happened, as if the place held no memories, in order to overcome their boredom.

they continued to shuffle around for god knows how long, stopping once in a while to lean at the edge of balconies to overlook the cityscape that was near by, seeing all the skyscrapers' lights turned on, cars barely operating on the streets at this dead time of night. they eventually got to the three o'clock area of the stadium, finding an electrical lighting outpost spot that extended its balconies, the roof's platform stretching out slightly to welcome a flight of stairs that went down to an electricity booth.

they sat down at the edge of the outpost, sticking their legs through the balcony's bars and letting their sneakers dangle, hands reaching through slightly to wrap their fingers around said bars. they felt the rings on their fingers graze against the polished, white metal of the bars, tapping at it to hear a familiar metal clinking sound. their eyes were still attentive on the details of the neighboring yet distant city, continuing to admire the mix of different color lightings from neon signs fixating on one another, a 24-hour monorail passing by and temporarily breaking the silence.

they continued swinging their legs a bit, relaxing with the calmest of breathing patterns. this is why i love night time. they thought. they heard a weird noise but decided to ignore it for the time being, their mind clearly getting lost and infatuated with the city. they could've sworn they were drooling over the view by now. after a long while, another pair of footsteps entered the scene, looking towards the edge of the three o'clock outpost to find them.

the figure stepped down onto the outpost platform, shuffling rather loudly in order to get the person's attention. the figure's footsteps halted, getting to a pretty close proximity to the person. "y/n?" a voice called out softly, prompting you to turn around at the suddenness. you'd be lying if you said you weren't slightly scared, eyes going a bit wide. "dream?" you asked back, recognizing the colors of the lights coming from the cityscape reflecting on that white, smiley face mask.

dream sighed, his gloved hand trailing up to ruffle his hair and then scratch the back of his neck. "sorry. i didn't mean to scare you." dream said, a sympathetic expression riddled underneath his mask. "it's alright. it was just unexpected." you mumbled, taking your hands off from the balcony bars and moving them, leaning your weight on your arms as you placed your hands on the floor behind you.

dream stepped up, shuffling closer to you. you could spot his combat boots entering your peripheral vision, the sound of his jean chains dangling momentarily, splitting through the air. you watched him lean his arms on the balcony railing, posture a bit slouched, his mask facing the grand view of the city. "what are you doing here?" you asked, staring at his mask-covered face with curiosity. "i could ask you the same." dream stated, diverting his gaze to look you in the eyes. "i was trying to find you. i got a bit worried." dream said. you can tell he was biting his lip from underneath the mask.

you furrowed your eyebrows slightly. "did you not see my text?" "you didn't say you were coming here though." dream replied, looking away from you and back at the city. that's when you also looked away, sighing. "yeah. fair enough." you agreed. you didn't wanna admit that you wanted to be alone though. you two stayed in comfortable silence until you began hearing chuckling from beside you, prompting you to turn towards dream. "doesn't this place give you memories?" dream questioned. you chuckled back, scoffing. "yeah. tell me about it." you replied.

dream decided to sit down next to you, copying your posture as he slipped his legs between the balcony's bars for them to dangle beside yours. although he resorted to sticking his arms through the bars, hugging the bars close to him. "well, you tell me first. good or bad memories?" dream said, eyes landing on you. he noticed your hands trailing off, beginning to play with the hems of your jacket and the rips in your baggy jeans, a habit you did when you were nervous, contemplative. "a mix of both." you admitted, dream still listening carefully. "it was great working here.. was great."
