Bittersweet || Lucifer

It was another late night, Lucifer found himself on his fifth cup of coffee while racing to finish his mountain of paperwork. And if that wasn't enough, he found a few surprise bills addressed to him. It didn't take him too long to figure out who they were actually for...

Diavolo advised him to take his time and to not overwork himself, but being the workaholic he is, Lucifer refused to take a break until he finished everything. So there he sat with a massive headache, listening to classical music as he tiredly scribbled down some notes.

Meanwhile, you lied in bed worrying about Lucifer. You tried getting him to go to bed and continue working tomorrow, but he simply told you he'd go as soon as he finished the paper he was on.

That was two hours ago.

You finally decided to put your foot down and get Lucifer to sleep. You hoped he would at least get five hours instead of his usual four. So you got out of bed and quietly headed to his study, determined to get him to take a break.

You took a deep breath and knocked on the door. You could hear music faintly playing from the other side.

"Enter." Lucifer spoke. You silently turned the knob and popped your head in.

"What are you still doing up?" He asked.

"I should be asking you the same thing, mister." You sassed. Lucifer smiled weakly before returning to his work.

"I know I told you I would head off to bed a while ago but-"

"Not just a while ago. It's been two...almost three hours, Lucifer. I'm getting worried." You frowned.

"I know...but there are still some things I need to finish." Lucifer said.

"Yes I get that, but you also need to rest...you look tired." You insisted. You stood behind his chair.

"I don't need to go to bed. I'm not tired, I'll be fine." Lucifer paused to push his glasses up.

"But Luci...I'll be so lonely without you." You said as you draped your arms around his shoulders.

"Come curl up in my arms, won't you?" You hummed as you pressed a soft kiss to his temple.

You slowly trailed kisses down to his neck and loosened his tie a bit. Lucifer seemed to relax with every kiss, the tension on his shoulders slowly melting. He subconsciously leaned his head back and to the side, giving you more places to kiss. His eyes slowly fluttered closed as you continued to kiss him softly.

You tried to gingerly take his glasses off but he immediately caught on to what you were attempting to do.

"...are you trying to seduce me into healthier sleeping habits?" Lucifer said.

You stopped kissing him and hesitated to answer.

"Is it working...?" You asked.

"...Almost" Lucifer muttered as he shrugged you off.

"Oh come on, Luci! It wouldn't hurt to take a break now and then would it?" You frowned.

You could see the internal conflict Lucifer was having with himself. It was obvious he didn't want to leave his work incomplete, but he longed for a moment of peace.

"I suppose it wouldn't..." Lucifer sighed.

Finally...

"Just let me finish this and I'll be done." Lucifer said as he fixed his glasses and flipped through some papers.
