"And you're certain it's going to work?" Belphie asked Satan skeptically.
"Well...Solomon told me that it usually works on humans...so who knows if it has the same effects on us demons?" Satan said as he pulled a pocket watch out.
"He said just to swing it in front of you until that's the only thing you could focus on. That's how I could hypnotize you..." Satan trailed off as he gazed at the gold watch.
"So does it have some magical spell that will make me do whatever you say?" Belphie retorted.
Belphie wasn't really a believer of what they called "human world magic". He knew the whole pulling out a rabbit from a hat and sawing someone in half was just a huge gimmick humans do to fool an audience. And he found it stupid when real magic is much more interesting than a simple card trick.
"Well it was in Solomon's possession first...so who knows if it actually does?" Satan shrugged.
He too knew all too well that it was just a regular watch, but he hoped somehow he could trick Belphie into thinking that it may have some magic in it.
"Whatever...if it doesn't work, you owe me 100 grimm." Belphie said.
"I'm betting 200 that it will." Satan proposed.
"Oh? Then I'm betting 500 that it's just a cheap trick and free chores pass." Belphie said, confidently thinking he wouldn't lose.
"Hm...I bet the same. It's a deal." Satan said as he put his hand out for Belphie to shake on it.
Belphie smirked and shook on it, determined to not lose this stupid game.
"Alright...I just need you to slowly breathe in and out while you focus on this watch." Satan said as he slowly started swinging the watch.
"Pfft...this is easy." Belphie snorted as his eyes followed the gold watch.
"I'm sure it is...just focus only on the watch...nothing else around it matters..." Satan tried coaxing him.
Belphie's eyes slowly followed the watch in an almost drone-like state. Every time the watch marked the seconds away, Belphie felt more mesmerized by the old trinket.
"Okay...now you're getting sleepy...your eyelids are getting heavier and heavier with each swing." Satan said with caution, afraid that if he spoke too loudly Belphie would snap out of it.
Satan knew Belphie could fall asleep by almost anything, slightly tilting the scales to his favor. But Belphie was adamant about not losing. He did have 500 grimm on the line.
"I'm not...not even tired right...now..." Belphie fought hard to keep his eyes open.
"It's okay if you can't resist it...it's fine that you're just getting sleepier...and sleepier..." Satan said as he continued to swing the watch back and forth.
"I'm...not...sleepy!!" Belphie forced himself to stay awake.
"Why are you so stubborn?!" Satan said.
"I'm not! I'm just not t-tired!" Belphie huffed.
Satan stopped moving the watch and groaned in frustration. He was suddenly struck with the thought that maybe this hypnosis might have the opposite effect on Belphie considering he sleeps almost all the time.
"Fine! You win!" Satan said, afraid that Belphie might somehow hurt himself if he didn't sleep.
"I don't believe you!" Belphie forced back a yawn.
