It was the start of December which signifies the start of Christmas shopping.
Dan just did the groceries. He took the bus even though the supermarket was just a few blocks away from their flat. He then got off and ran up God knows how many flights of stairs he had to take to get to their flat. Sometimes he even thinks that's the only thing keeping him fit.
Yes, Danisnotonfire. The sarcastic and cynical YouTuber with rather deep humor. His flatmate's personality, although, complements his. Philip Michael Lester, also a YouTube persona, has a cheery attitude. He lit up Dan's life when Dan was at a low point. They depended on each other. Although a lot of their fans ship them, only they know what really goes on between them.
He got inside, well, after a good few minutes of fumbling for his key. He dropped the grocery bags on their dining table and went to call his flatmate, Phil. "Hey Phil," He called. After a few seconds, a response was heard. "Yeah?" "I bought two cereal boxes since you keep on eating it as a midnight snack or something." "Oh oka--" "I also bought some Doritos." "For what?" "You know, just in case your cereal runs out and you're still hungry--" "Dan!" "Okay, okay! I was just kidding!" Dan subtlely grinned.
"Dan, you need to clean your room," Phil added. "What? I thought we agreed to never go inside each other's room unless it's for a video?!" "Yeah but well I couldn't help!" Phil shrugged. Dan sighed and picked his laptop up. "I'm staying in my room okay?" Dan called. "Sure, I'll be here outside watching TV." Phil gave him a thumbs up.
Dan went inside his room. To his surprise, he found his room rather tidy, unlike the way he left it when he went outside to buy groceries. He turned his laptop on and lied on his bed. Although, just right after opening tumblr, an existential crisis suddenly found its way to him. Why do I exist? Why do people exist? What is my purpose? What is life? Is life just an illusion? Are people lying whenever they say they're real? Contemplating his (and other people's) existence, these were the few thoughts that swam in his mind as he fell into a spiral of existential thoughts.
"Dan? Can I borrow the laptop charger? Mine is missing." Phil called. Dan was falling into a spiral of thoughts and blacked out, thus not hearing anything from the real world. "Dan?" Phil called again. He walked to Dan's room, having second thoughts on whether he should go inside Dan's room or not. "Dan?" he knocked.
Finally making up his mind, he opened the door, only to find Dan gazing at the nonexistent horizon. "Dan!" Phil clapped his hands. Nothing. He ran over to Dan, shaking Dan's shoulders violently. Dan finally snapped out of the existential crisis. "Another one?" Phil asked. "Yeah." Dan sighed and fixed his position into the browsing position. "Anyway, can I borrow your laptop charger? mine is missing for now but I swear I'll find it." Phil asked. "Sure, here." Dan handed his charger to Phil. Phil got up and got his laptop and went back in Dan's room again. "W- why are you here?" Dan asked.
"I'm staying here, just in case another existential crisis of yours decides to drop by." Phil told the hesitant Dan. Dan in return, motioned him to stay on the other side of his bed, where there was a socket for Phil's laptop to plug in. "Okay, but when I fall asleep don't draw on my face and don't ruin my hair," "I won't, Dan." followed by a gentle grin.
