XXIX
Narrator POV
Ink and Error, two opposite rivals that defend their own sides.
Ink protects the creative part of the balance, his role is to help the creators to create originals alternative universes so he doesn't himself disappear. Over the years, creating copies and timelines became his new way to survive through oblivion as they attract the creators a bit more.
Error protects the destructive part of the balance, his role is to destroy alternative universes that seem pointless, unfinished, or too overpowered. And over the years, his role elevated to destroy the copies and timelines his rival was creating that were damaging the balance. For some reason, he also attracts the creators, even more than Ink, strangely...
Dear Error, those are called simp...
Fate? Destiny? Those deities were never heard off. Maybe they do exist, maybe they don't. In other words, they won't interfere with the story, maybe elsewhere but not here.
Both Ink and Error act on their own, they have their own personality and are as free as a bird. At the exception of the Rule.
The Rule is like a law in the human world, if it's frauded by anyone, their punishment should occur as soon as possible. As for Error and Ink, if they fraud that one simple rule, they simply die, with the multiverse.
Rule 00-a-01: It is prohibited to exceed the limit of invention and demolition without any reasonable intention. The sentence should be the end of existence.
The one who created the Rule? It might sound stupid but the two opposites create it. It was the debut of the beginning, and it all starts when they both meet each other for the first time.
Persuaded that the both of them could be some sort of partners at work and friends out of their jobs, they created the Rule for precautions, if something bad happens, they would appeal to use this Rule against their existence and everyone's to end it all.
And as you can tell, their relationship never functioned. Both were different, one was a soulless creator with infinite imagination that would do anything to have fun, the other was a sadistic destroyer that hated those abominations that he was creating ceaselessly.
So they went on their sides, quarreling over power and balance, shifting from the destructive to the creative side. But in the end, they just fight to the death and complicates everything with their conflicts.
Do you remember those voices that only Error and Ink could hear? Well, they mainly appeared after the rival's first fight.
Oh and don't mix everything! The voices were different from the creators' voices that Ink could hear.
I see that everything is getting fuzzy so let's leave the details for another time.
The voices that Ink could hear were an unknown source that keeps invading the artist's mind with dark and ominous desire.
An example?
Underverse, perfect example.
Error... Was being Error, destroying the countless copies that keeps being created days by days by Ink, his job getting more and more tiring as the voices were harassing him to do better, or some were solacing him but how rare they were...
The Apple incident happened and Nightmare rebirthed as the new king of negative emotions while his twin brother was transformed in stone.
Nightmare and Error made a truce between their two sides, they told each other that negativity and destruction go well together and could benefit the two in any situation.
(insert the debut of Inkmare relationship)
Dream came back after 500 years of a dark reign from his brother and meet Ink who immediately created a band.
And this is how the Star Sans and the Bad Sans/MOB/Bad Gays/NM's Fanclub was created, like a little caterpillar developing into a butterfly.
Why I wrote the last line? Because he sounds cool—

"For Star's sake, Error stop crashing!" yelled the flushed 'artist' as he tried to reboot the glitching skeleton. It has been twenty minutes since Dream, Ink, and Error came back at the base from the cabins and nothing was going well. Dream was standing awkwardly, avoiding Ink's glare, Swap was on his phone, vibing with some friends and Ink was on top of Error, who was laying on the couch unconscious, trying to reboot him.
"Damn it! Swap—" he turned to face the blue skeleton in hopes to have more information of what everyone was hiding from him.
"If you want information, you will have to ask either Error or Nightmare," he said.
Dream wasn't gonna say anything too, as he was too embarrassed to even look at Ink in the eyes, it was too much.
"Dream—"
"I'm sorry but I-I can't!"
"Could you at least call Nightmare or something?"
He didn't think much as he immediately went inside the kitchen to call his brother, not tolerating the heavy and uncomfortable atmosphere of the living room. Once left, Ink went back on spamming the reboot button of Error's crash screen but after few thousand tries, he finally wake up.
"Ugh..." An intense headache was what he felt first when he gained consciousness. He has been having those weird flashbacks of him and the squid's past recounted by some sort of Narrator. Even when he's having weird dreams he's getting interrupted, maybe if he had the occasion, he could have learned about the future, because why not?
Ink waited for him to fully wake up, arms and legs crossed as he was still on top of him, glaring.
Error opens his eyes as he felt that something was more wrong than it should be, he tried to get up but Ink lays him back down on the pillow, his hands clenched on his red shirt with strength.
"What the— what the hell are you doing on top of me?!" Shout Error in alarm as he tried to move him away with his legs.
"And what is this pregnancy story about Error?" calmly asked Ink as he was repressing his anger the best way he could.
"Oh, shit..."
