Hearts Will Break

The male before me stands completely still. His eyes never leaving my form, and everywhere his impenetrable gaze lands is burning at his attention. Again, time stands still. The juvenile male bleeds in my hands, so much blood, I begin to worry it might be too late for him. This thought leaves a retched taste on my tongue and shame begins to weigh on my shoulders.

I should have been faster. My inner beast indulged in her kill for too many seconds too long, and my lack of control will cost a young male his future. A mate will never come to know their other half because of my weakness. It's rushing foot steps that draw me from this downward spiral of self pity.

Alaric rushes forward and with gentle hands removes me from my duties. This life is in his hands now, better hands. I smile gently in greeting before moving myself from his space entirely. A life needs saving, and I have done what I can to maintain it. It's time to step back.

I barely have time to breathe before my arm is roughly yanked on. The night is silent, but his touch fills it with noise. A secret sound only my body can hear. Im hauled up to my feet, and the second I am we begin to pace through the darkness. I choose not to fight my males hold and instead focus my energy on matching his fast steps so he dosent yank my arm from its socket.

The alphas home comes into view quickly, and before long the door is thrown open and we are enveloped into its warmth, a stark contrast from the unforgiving, bitter cold outside. I hear the door slam shut behind us. Seconds go by in silence. Neither one of us speaks, but his eyes are on me. I'm tugged forward again, but this time into a hard chest.

Stunned. My body tenses, and my muscles ready for the fight that will no doubt ensue. I broke the number one rule, the most important rule this male gave me; no leaving the house.

I brace myself for pain, but it dosent come, and in its place, tranquility resides. My male holds me close to him. His nose pressed tight against the crook of my neck. I feel his breathe on my collar bone as he takes in my essence. His wolf lies just beneath his skin, enraged by the blood that coats me from head to toe.
I open my mouth to speak, "Alpha." It comes out sensual and soft, nothing like I had planned for.

"Shush female." He coos to me gently.

It's the softest I've ever heard him speak. It lights my heart on fire. My entire being is engulfed in his flames. It's too much, an overload to the mind and body, and I find myself breathless. I try to pull away to give myself the space I so desperately need, but the god among men refuses to allow it.

A low growl sounds out from the base of his throat. Teeth nip softly at my sensitive skin in warning.

"Stay." He grumbles out in a simple command.

His skin on my skin feels blissful. I'm lost in his touch, I can't seem to operate with him this close. As if hearing my inner turmoil, he pulls away from me. Dark grey eyes size me up from head to toe, once again analyzing my body for any injury. His grey globes stop at my thigh. It's not a deep wound, but it bleeds none the less. A growl rumbles in his chest.

"Are you hurt anywhere else?" He questions as his gaze meets mine.

I want to speak, but I'm still not functioning, so I settle for a shake of my head. No. I didn't even remember the wound until he pointed it out. It's one of the first things my father taught me how to do; desensitize the pain.

He grabs my hand in his large one, and this time gently pulls me towards the bathroom on the main floor. I follow like a pup whose just learned to walk. His actions have me so out of my element I'm lost in reality. It happens fast. His free hand trials up the outside of my thigh and his fingers dip into the waist band of my hand-me-down sweats. He pauses for just a second, on the bare skin of my waist before effortlessly sliding the now tattered pants down my legs, leaving them to pool at my feet. His other hand leaves mine and finds it's way to my wide hips. He lifts me softly onto the counter and goes into different drawers looking for whatever he thinks he needs. He emerges quickly with a first aid kit in hand.
