A stunning girl with a dark complexion, brown eyes, and black hair stood at the door. She was wearing a bandana around her head and her crop top and shorts matched perfectly with her body type. Brianna immediately recognized her.
Brianna turned to see Jasmine's reaction and when she saw her new friend frown, she knew that this girl was not good news. However, she quickly turned her frown into a warm smile.
"Hey girls!" the girl smiled.
"Hi," they replied.
"Well, I guess that means we're roomies now! My name is Cassandra but call me Cass, please. I already know you Jasmine but who are you?" Cassandra asked, staring at Brianna.
"I - I am Brianna," she stuttered.
"Aw, are you nervous? I'm assuming it's your first time here. Well, don't you worry, I am here and you'll be alright!" Cassandra reassured her.
Brianna took a glance towards Jasmine who was rolling her eyes and sticking her tongue out behind Cassandra. Brianna bit her tongue, trying not to burst out in laughter. Jasmine continued to exaggerate Cassandra's every movement until they both could not help themselves but giggle.
Cassandra turned around and frowned.
"I'm sorry," Brianna apologized.
"Oh don't be. I know the opinion you have of me, Jasmine, and I have changed."
"Oh really, Cassandra?" Jasmine raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, and it's Cass! Look, I was just very insecure about my body and I thought that getting a guy would boost my confidence. I didn't mean to steal your boyfriend, you guys did not tell anyone and James was not pushing me away. You girls surely understand what it feels like to be insecure?"
Brianna immediately understood what Cassandra was attempting to do. Even though she had just met Jasmine, she knew that she would not lie to her and she did not want Cassandra to become her new enemy so she just nodded like she always did, and maybe that Cassandra actually had changed.
"It's fine, Cass. You know what, let's just move on and never talk about last year, please?" Jasmine asked.
"Of course, Jazzy! Now, which bed am I taking?"
"Bri and I are sharing this bunk bed so you can share the other one with the other new girl."
"Bri? You already have nicknames for each other, that's adora -"
She was interrupted by the death stare Jasmine was giving her.
"Okay, okay. I'll stop. I just mean that nicknames are cute."
They all began unpacking and once they were done, they sat on their beds. Jasmine laid upside down so that she would face Brianna, while Cassandra was applying some make-up on her already perfectly looking face.
The windows were wide open and Brianna could feel the warm air hit her face. She was glad that her mother had insisted on bringing the sunscreen, otherwise, she would have burnt and gotten red like a lobster.
At the thought of her mother, her eyes watered. She did not expect to be homesick and she knew that she needed to be stronger than this. She wanted to become a part of this camp adventure and she needed this change of air. She could not go back home where he was because he was her weak spot. With him around, she could not focus and she would fall back into the trap that their relationship had been.
She felt an arm on her shoulder and turned around to see Cass, who was insistently staring at her. She seemed genuinely worried and her phone was nowhere to be seen, which surprised Brianna.
