Adelina's POVI watch Luis as he reads his book. If things were different all those years ago then he might've ended up like us. Or we would've been like him. I walk into the cozy room drawing his attention to me.
I sit on a couch across from him, "Is it any good?" He gives me a confused look, "The book."
He looks at me tentatively as if he never knew me and we weren't childhood friends. In some ways it was true I wasn't the kid who he was friends with but I still knew him. He nods, I knew it was his favorite book even when we were kids when he had to beg our older brothers to read it to us. "You know all of this wasn't your fault. You couldn't have changed anything that happened."
He looks up at me surprised and I shrug, "Don't blame yourself for this shit if you were in the panic room with us they would've taken you too, okay?"
I don't give him time to reply as I walk out of the room. I know that just like his twin, Santi, used to Luis easily takes the blame for everything. I meet Santi and Luka in Luka's bedroom that has been remodeled from the childhood room of superheroes to a classy modern black and gray room.
"Where were you?" Santi looks up from the computer at Luka's words and they both wait for a reply.
"Socializing and such," I shrug it didn't matter.
"And here I thought they all ran for the hills after The Ace's stunt."
I shrug, "I doubt it they are the mafia, and the three of us would've done the same."
While we were actually in our bedrooms from when we were kids in the family wing of bedrooms Emmy, Ezequiel, and Emilio took the guest suite and for now, no one pushed the issue. Although their old rooms were offered to them considering they just killed people in the one they were in, but they didn't accept the offer. I knew it disappointed our family but it was a delicate situation. The Aces were time bombs waiting to explode and get everyone around them killed and our family was ready to be loving and hopefully patient. It could either end with The Ace's killing the family or well The Ace's killing everyone including themselves and the three of us would be in the middle of it all.
I sit next to Luka who was currently hacking the Unseen Nightmare official chat channels and of course all the higher teams not so official channels of communication. All the teams were supposed to stay separate and only socialize when necessary; very few followed the rule. We needed to know which teams have been told to guard the higher-ups and which ones are against the new leader.
Even in the brief amount of time, he has been in charge Cerveau has already implemented many new rules that many aren't happy about. We may all be Unseen Nightmares but we are also assassins and we like our freedom. Cerveau has already been trying to force our assassins to reveal all property money, land, and otherwise to him along with trying to make everyone report by a curfew to an Unseen Nightmare location nightly unless given permission to be out.
Teams were either already revolting or getting close to it and The Roses haven't been seen since it started making many think we've revolted as well. Unlike The Aces, The Roses were looked up to in this industry. The Aces were psychotic and feared however admired. The Roses were known for being trusted and admired and we worked to keep the reputation we held. If the three of us who were known for being Nacht's guards for many events stood by The Aces while they were accused, many would side with us. However, Nacht was killed by poison and surprisingly very few assassins specialized with poison other than Corazon making her and the other Aces the prime suspects for the crime. It was often rumored that Corazon was the one to blame for the disappearance of most of the poisoners in The Nightmares; however, they were always rare as they relied solely on their poison and not weapons making them inherently weaker assassins unless they had other training like Corazon. With that said the number of poisoners was decreasing rapidly without many reports on why.
"Well, teams either hate The Aces or Cerveau-"
"Or both," I finish as I scan through the chats the two of them nod and there was a knock at the door.
I call for Leone to come in knowing they were going to ask us to do something with them tonight. Leone pops his head out and smiles at us, "We're doing a movie night please come." Unlike so many others in this family, his emotions were easy to read: hope and happiness and the hidden sadness. I agree knowing it would make him and the family happy. He basically beams at me as he attempts to drag us out of the room then pouts when we don't move immediately. After a while of his prodding and us being difficult, we finally move to go to the movie room where everyone greets us clearly happy we were joining them.
Some of the boys argue what to turn on and they eventually decide on some action movie as our parents just roll their eyes and Uncle Manuel joins in on the arguing until someone finally just plays something. Halfway through the movie the door opens and immediately our family starts raising guns as Emmy pouts wearing a glittery and a colorful wig as if she didn't have twelve guns focused on her.
"Boo watching movies without us how rude," She skips to an empty seat with Emilio and Ezequiel following behind her as if it is a normal occasion. The three sit together and after a while, of everyone watching her she rolls her eyes dramatically gesturing her hand as if she was a queen, "Let's continue shall we this is my favorite part."
Someone snaps out of the trance enough to play the movie once again and weirdly the scene felt almost normal. Like this has happened a million times, once everyone in the family falls asleep the six of us get up and head out of the room.
"Didn't think you'd join us."
Emmy spins towards me, "I love watching movies, you know that."
I shake my head and head to my room, "Sure, Ems." Those three were up to something as usual.
