Seokkyung and Seokhoon stepped slowly into their father's study, their faces pale and beads of sweat forming on their foreheads. Joo Dan Tae sat behind his table as he gazed at his children who slowly walked up to him, their steps heavy and slow. Classical opera music flooded around the room as he slowly stood up and walked up to his children. "I heard some really funny news about my dear children today." He said in a low voice with a straight face as he placed one hand on their shoulders. Seokkyung and Seokhoon hung their heads low, avoiding his gaze. Seokkyung reached for her brother's hands and clasped it tightly, her body trembling in fear as their father looked at them.
"Joo Seokkyung. I heard you turned in an empty answer sheet in today's exam? Is that true?" He said as he walked around the room. Seokhoon's eyes widened as he glanced at his little sister. He grabbed her arm and turned her frail body towards her. "What is dad talking about? What does he mean you turned in any empty answer sheet?" He hissed, his eyes shaking as a chilly feeling settled down his spine. Seokkyung looked at her brother, her eyes brimming with tears. They both knew the consequences for messing up anything. Seokkyung took a deep breath and removed Seokhoon's hands from her arm and she faced her father. "I don't want to study in Cheong A." Dan tae glanced at her, his eyes darkening. He walked up the twins. "What...did you say?" A tear slipped down Seokkyung's face but she stood her ground and confidently looked up to her father. "I.HATE.IT." She spoke firmly. "I hate school, I hate singing, I hate this place, I hate everything. I don't want to do it." She looked at her father, determination burning in her eyes. She could no longer put up with his expectations and controlling nature. She wanted to get out. Get away from everything and go far away with her brother. He was all she needed." Dan tae took a deep breath as he rubbed the back of his neck with his palms. "Then, what do you want to do?" He said in a chilly tone as he looked at his daughter with lifeless eyes. Seokkyung's eyes lit up. Maybe this is what she should have done this whole time. He was her father in the end. He wouldn't want his daughter to suffer would he. She wiped her tears and held her father's hands in her thin ones. "Send me and Seokhoon Oppa abroad. Please?" Her eyes sparkled with hope. Hope that it was finally over. She and Seokhoon would finally lead happy lives. Seokhoon looked at his father, a dim light of hope burning in him as well. Dan tae smiled. "If that's what my daughter wants, so it shall be." He said placing his hand on her head. Seokkyung smiled brightly for the first time in years. "Really? Father...thank you so much-" Dan tae's smile dropped as he grasped Seokkyung's long hair and pulled it back. Seokkyung screamed in pain as he threw her frail body against the book shelves. She crashed against the books and fell to the ground, a couple of books raining on top of her. "SEOKKYUNG-AH!!" Seokhoon screamed as he shoved Dan tae to the side and ran to his sister's side, helping her get up. His gaze fell on the gash that had formed on her forehead from where blood was slowly sliding down her face. He tightened his jaw and stared at his father. "You had promised...YOU HAD PROMISED YOU WON'T BEAT HER ANYMORE." He yelled as he walked up to his father, his eyes red with anger. "She should've known her place. As long as you live under me, I control what you do and how you live. How will you get into SNU if this is how you are going to do in your examinations." Joo Dan Tae glanced at Seokkyung who was still sitting on the floor, staring at the books around her. "Know your place. He reached for the first aid box on the shelves in his room and walked up to her and threw it on her laps. He squatted down as he softly patted her head. "Clean that up and smile when you walk out of here. The maids should not be suspicious." Seokkyung glared at him, clenching her fists tightly - her nails digging into her palms. Dan Tae smiled. "Smile, my child. You know dad wants the best for you, right?"

(The next day, At the entrance of the classroom)
Seokhoon and Seokkyung walked in quietly, their eyes cold. "Yo Joo Seokhoon! Why did you come so late today?" Minhyuk walked up to the twins with Jenny falling right behind. "Seokkyung-ah...what happened to your forehead?" Jenny asked confused as she closed into the quiet girl. "Piss off" Seokkyung hissed as she shoved Jenny to the side and sat down on her seat. "That witch..." Jenny muttered but quickly shut her lips tightly when she saw Seokhoon glaring at her.
Eunbyeol, who had been revising her notes looked up when she heard the commotion between Jenny and the twins. Her face brightened up when she saw Seokhoon's face. She pulled out a notebook from her bag and walked up to Seokhoon who had sat down on his bench. "Seokhoon-ah, good morning!" She said in a cheerful voice. He looked up to her while removing his coat. "What do you want?" He said in a cold tone, looking uninterested as always. "I organized these notes for Seokkyung. I heard she turned in an empty answer sheet yesterday. I snuck into mom's study yesterday and I have jotted down all the important questions that will come for the next exam. It'll help her." Seokhoon's gaze softened as he took the notebook. "Oh...thanks" He awkwardly tried to smile. "No problem" Eunbyeol said, her heart fluttering as she went back to her seat. It was the first time he smiled at her. "Calm down you stupid heart" She muttered.
The class bell rang and all the students settled down. The homeroom teacher walked in followed by an unfamiliar girl. "Class, today we have been joined by a new student. This is Bae Rona. She had been in number 1 position in the waiting list but since Min Seol A passed away a few weeks ago, she will be attending our school now. Treat her well." The teacher turned to Rona. "Why don't you introduce yourself?" Seokhoon gazed at the new girl. She was pretty. Her long, silky hair falling on her shoulders, her big bright eyes and equally bright smile. Too bright. She was too bright to match the mood of the school. "I hate her already." Seokkyung whispered from behind him. "Yeah..." He muttered, shaking off the weird thoughts he was having about the new girl.
She walked up the front of the classroom while everyone looked up to her. All of them scowling at her with disgusted looks. Nothing out of the ordinary. Things had been this way all her life. 'Guess I'm not making friends here as well' she thought to herself while straightening her back and flashing the brightest smile. "Hey! I'm Bae Rona. Let's all get along!" She said cheerfully as she clutched her bag and went and sat on the empty seat behind a mysterious , handsome boy. Eunbyeol looked at the new girl who was sitting next to Seokhoon. She pressed her lips tightly against each other and sighed. Too bad. She wanted to sit next to him.
As classes started, the students were all taken aback by Rona's scholastic skills. She got all the answers right in every class, her voice was extraordinary even their strict music teacher couldn't help but stand and applaud her. With every class, Eunbyeol got more and more bothered. All this time she had held the title of Cheong A's top student alongside Joo Seokhoon but it seemed like this new Bae Rona girl would be tough competition. He repeatedly tucked her hair behind her ears, her smiled fading as the day went on.
Unbeknownst to her, Seokkyung had been observing her this whole time with a smirk on her face. "Ha Eunbyeol, I've got you wrapped around my fingers." She muttered as her gaze shifted to Rona. "Bae Rona, I'm gonna have some fun with you." Seokkyung knew there was no way she could steal Eunbyeol's title as the top student with her abilities. Shaking her mentality was the only way she could become top student. The only way her father wouldn't beat her. "I don't have a choice, you know." She breathed as she stared at Rona. "Some people need to fall for me to rise, right?"

AND that was the first chapter. Not much happened because it was just sort of an introduction to the characters and their positions in each other's lives right now. The story will progress slowly. I hope you liked it. :)
