Chapter 7 may seem very exaggerated for some, but it really was just Ryu's personality. Ryu is a really caring guy, so a small change will affect him. He's been like this for about 3-4 years. This is the effect of his father forcing him to care about his closest friends and family. He got forced onto doing those bcs his father wants their child to be a caring child and a cheerful person who cares about his friends and the people that came into his life. But his parents left him when he's 16 because his father actually wanted a daughter, not a son. So he's been living alone for 3 years. His parents moved from Kyoto to Hokkaido to leave as far as possible from Ryu so they can forget that they once had Ryu. While Ryu moved from Kyoto to Yokohama to look for a better school.
That's pretty much why the chapter looked like it was really exaggerated. Ryu is a really caring person and a change with the person he loved the most can make him overthink it and even thought about the worst case that'll happen and those thoughts is hurting him and killing his feelings, that's also why he would harm himself when something changes from the person he loved the most bcs his uncontrollable bad thoughts got the best of him and the bad side took control of his body, making him do the things that's not supposed to be done even if he didn't want to.
