“I really hate this!” Riki yelled, sleeves and pant legs rolled up as hauled up dirty trash bags.
“This is the thousandth time you’ve said it!” Hyerin yelled back, watching him from a distance.
He was then inside the dumpster, searching through each and every bag in sight to find what they were looking for.
Hyerin sat on one of the two chairs that were placed outside, not less than one meter away from the bin, the gardener sat on the other while his pet stayed in his arms.
They just relaxed in the cool autumn weather as Riki stressed himself in a huge trash can.
After a bunch of field tries and Riki pulling out pieces of paper of no significance, Hyerin contemplated if what they were doing was a good idea or not.
“Found anything yet?!” She asked, raising her voice enough for him to hear, when his head popped out.
“If I did, would I still be in here!?!” He shouted, going back down to open another trash bag.
The old man stifled a laugh. “Your boyfriend must be very kind enough to do this”
“Oh, he’s not my boyfriend” Hyerin turned her head to him, immediately turning down his words.
He just let out a knowing chuckle. “Alright”
After a minute or two, the boy stumbled out of the iron capsule.
“I found it! I found it!” He happily exclaimed, walking up to the both of them.
Hyerin and the man got up from their seats, the cat immediately scurrying away from the elder’s arms as he moved.
“Finally!” Hyerin let out, “Took you long enough”
Riki scoffed. “At least you weren’t forced to look through all those disgusting bags!”
“Whatever, whatever,” The girl flayed her hands around, “We should get going now”
“Thank you so much for your help… uh” Hyerin greeted, stopping at the fact that she didn’t even know the man’s name.
“Mr. Ahn” He filled in her words as she smiled in return.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Ahn” She bowed and they both left.
Emerging from the back of the school building, the two headed straight for the gate and made their way out of there.
“Shouldn’t you be thanking me?” Riki folded his arms and turned to her as they walked.
She shot him a look and raised an eyebrow. “For what?”
“You’re joking,” He scoffed, “I went through a literal dumpster because you weren’t going to”
“So, if you didn’t, you were just going to let a lady like me do it instead?!” Hyerin countered, sending a ferocious gaze at him.
The boy laughed at her statement. “You’re a lady?! I wouldn’t have guessed in a million years!”
Her jaw screwed open, making Riki laugh even more. It obviously made her mad.
“Of course, I am!” Hyerin spieled, “Do you know how many guys are after me?!”
Riki chuckled. “Let me guess… zero?”
“You stink,” She squawked, “Literally!”
The girl began walking faster but with his long legs, he caught up to her within seconds.
“Get away before you bring that smell onto me” She fanned the space in front of her nose to swat the dumpster scent away.
“Hmm,” He acted like he was thinking, “I’ve been needing a hug lately”
Her face fell, she knew exactly where he was going.
“Hey… don’t you dare come close to me” Hyerin turned around to face him, both still walking on the street.
“And what if I do” He came closer and closer.
“Ahh!!” She screamed and made a run for it.
Of course, he began to chase her. He laughed while she continued to squabble away as if her life was on the line.
It was almost as if the two were in their own world, running on the streets of their small town.
Wait, didn’t they hate each other?
The other pedestrians who happened to notice them either looked in disappointment or jealousy.
“Okay, okay, I give up” Hyerin stopped and bent over on a bench, panting from all the running.
They had found themselves at the central park about two blocks away from the library they usually went to.
“Doesn’t mean I will” He declared with a smug look on his face.
“No, no… no!!” The girl yelled out but before she could talk again, his arms wrapped around her.
Almost like she forgot everything, she started laughing, they both did.
“The dirt!!” She chuckled, both still in the same position.
And then boom, a sudden wave of realization crossed through both of them at the same time.
Riki’s eyes widened and a moving Hyerin became stiff.
The position they were both in at that moment…
The two let go and looked around the area in discomfiture. What just happened?
“Great, you got the smell all over me now” Hyerin broke the awkward silence.
He cleared his throat but ended up not saying anything. Hyerin’s eyes moved all over the place.
“I’ll go get changed, you should too,” She spoke up, “Meet back at the library in ten minutes”
He nodded his head and took off immediately, the girl quickly doing the same.
Hyerin went all the way home and cleaned up. Luckily, she finished on time.
While on her way back to the library, she thought about what had happened minutes prior.
“Wow, I must have been crazy!” She hit herself in the head, “What were you thinking!”
Continuing to hit herself, she walked over to the building they had specified to meet at.
She let out a deep breath on standing in front of the doors and moved inside.
The library was such a tranquil place, a very cozy atmosphere at that. A lot of students, from Middle school to High school to university level filled the area.
A few geezers here and there reading newspapers or old books they found.
Hyerin sat on her seat, placing her hands on the table as she waited for the boy that hadn’t arrived yet. He was usually there before her, most times at least.
After a few minutes, Riki came in and sat down too.
“I think you know what we have to do” Hyerin nodded at him in all seriousness.
He nodded back. “Let’s go”
