Jordan's POV
That's a lot of kids who showed up for this tryout, There's definitely no chance I have to making the team. Every kid on the block is here right now, even that Brady kid with the limp is here. I should just cut my losses and save myself from the embarrassment of not making the team. Maybe if I tell mom I don't feel good. She would never let me play if I'm sick. I can say I feel like I'm going to shit myself. Ooo yeah, that's a good one. "Uh mo-" "I'm so excited for you honey!" She cuts me off. I can undoubtedly tell she is, I wouldn't be surprised if she tinkled on herself.
Seeing that smile on her face changes my whole intend to bail. That's the first time I've seen her smile in a while. Her mood been down these last couple of days, when I asked her what's wrong she just said she was tired. I know she's lying to me because I heard her crying in the kitchen last week when she thought I left for school. I'm really getting worried about her, so seeing her like this makes my day. Now I have to go through with this soccer thing and make her proud.
"Yeah mom me too" I give her a smile. "I remember all the tips Billy told me, there's no way I'm not going to make the team". Billy, my older brother, plays soccer in high school. The Dude is a beast on the field. He's the first freshman in town to make varsity and become co-captain. Every college in the states is trying to scout him, so I know taking his knowledge about the field would get me on the team for sure.
"I can't wait to go to all your games. I need to invest in one of those lawn chairs with the sun shield because I refuse to get wrinkles" she looks at herself rearview mirror. "That would never happen mom, but if it did you still look beautiful with them" I give her a cheeky smile. "Alright smart ass" she playfully flicks my ear, making me pout.
I heard the whistle signaling that it was time to go on the field. "Good luck baby!!" Mom shouts when I get out of the car. Running on the field, I gather with the other kids. "Who invited the freak" I hear someone in the group. Looking across from me to see who said that, and I'm not surprised to see the biggest jerk in town, Terrence Smith.
"Your mom told me about tryouts last night" I fired back at him. The way his eye twitch, I can tell I hit a nerve. He stalks towards me, "What did you say little-" he gets cut off by the whistle. "Now I know you not going to hit that girl, right, Smith?" I heard a deep voice say, then following by was a whole bunch of gasping and whispering. I looked past Terrence to see who owned the voice was. My eyes go wide when I see that the voice belongs to The William Thompson Jr.
William Thompson Jr is the Captain of the Soccer's Varsity Team. If Billy is a beast in soccer, than William Thompson Jr is a straight-up God. The guy broke three of us toes stilled played and won the game for his team, but don't let that fool you. He might be gifted on the field, but when he's off the field he's a psychopath. I once heard that a ref gave him foul, so at the end of the game he broke both the refs knee caps. The police weren't able to prove it was him because the ref was too scared to talk. Now no refs dare to foul him.
"No...No I wasn't sir" You can hear the fear in Terrence's voice. I turn my head to the side to try to cover the smile on my face. Seeing Terrence almost shitting himself is the second-greatest thing that's happened today. "That's what I thought now fall back" William says, making Terrence move away from me.
"Now I want you all lined up side by side Now!" Everyone hurried's up to the line next to each other. "Coach White is not here today, so he asked the boys and I if we can take over the tryouts" I can hear some groans from that announcement, probably even some crying. "I'm not going to lie to you brats, we're not going to make this tryout easy for any of you to make this team. I want to see blood sweat and tears out there" Some guys had an evil smirk on their faces , nodding their head agreeing with him.
