🕊Chapter Forty-Four: Ta-Da! 🕊

🕊🕊🕊

I let out an exhausted sigh, wiping sweat off of my forehead with a smile. I put my hands on my hips, staring down at the dish with a proud smile. Ukobach and I worked nearly the entire school day on improving my stir fry that would be worthy enough for Rin to eat.

I smiled and took the apron off from around my neck, placing it back in its spot.

I looked back to the dish I made and squealed in excitement, "Yes! This is perfect for Rin!" I exclaimed, clapping my hands cheerfully with my tail wagging behind me. I placed the Chicken Stir Fry dish on a lunch tray with a bowl of rice. They were both steaming and freshly made.

This was a very special dish to me. It held great importance- Especially right now. The last time I made it, Rin was late getting home so Shiro ate it so I didn't get upset, and now is the first time I'm making it again in years. I made it all on my own. Ukobach taught me a lot today, and I used all the skills he taught me to make a dish worthy of the great Rin Okumura! It took nearly all day, ( and a few minor accidents ) but I finally made something I was proud of.

I left the kitchen with the tray and set it on one of the dining tables. I smiled with my hands on my hips and nodded in satisfaction. I bit my lip as I smiled and went back to the kitchen, holding up my hand to Ukobach. He squeaked and jumped up, giving me a high-five. "Thank you so much for helping me, Ukobach! You really taught me a lot! I hope Rin will like it."

He squeaked with a smile, and I laughed, "Thanks, Ukobach."

The door to the dorm opened and in walked Rin with a bag of groceries. I ducked behind the window quickly, taking my place in the hiding spot I used this morning. I covered my mouth with a smile, trying to stay quiet. I didn't want him to know I was awake yet.

I heard Rin sigh, the door closing. The plastic shuffling sounded on the table. "Ukobach?" Rin called out.

Ukobach hopped onto the kitchen window, squeaking in response.

"What's this on the table?"

He squeaked.

"For me? Isn't it a little early for dinner?"

He squeaked again.

"What do you mean 'it's special'?"

Ukobach let out a series of impatient squeaks.

"Alright, alright, I'll try it. Geez..." I heard a chair being pulled out and then scooted in again. It was silent for a moment, and I bit the inside of my cheek nervously. "Wow! This is seriously awesome! Thanks, Ukobach!"

Hearing this made my heart skip a beat. I bit my lip to keep myself from making any sound.

Ukobach squeaked,

"Huh? What do you mean you didn't make it? If you didn't make it, then who did?"

I squealed to myself, grinning as I crawled out of my hiding place, shooting up in front of the kitchen window in a standing position. I threw my arms into the air as I smiled widely with my eyes closed, "Ta-da! I made it!" I cheered and then put my hands on my hips. "Yukio told me you were feeling sad these past few days since I was recovering, and I know you wanted to try my Stir Fry, so I decided to make it for you as a surprise! It's good, huh!"

I didn't hear a response, so I opened my eyes, seeing Rin staring at me. My smile fell slightly but didn't leave. I lowered my arms, staring at him as he did so to me. "What?... Why are you staring at me like that?..." I asked, gripping my arm as I shifted nervously.
