I didn't know what to do, feeling torn between my feelings for him and the fear of getting hurt again.
I thanked him for returning my phone. Our gaze lingered a little bit.
"I should go" He said.
"Yeah" I said disappointed.
I watched as he walked away from the door and felt a lump form in my throat. I didn't know if I would ever see him again, but I knew that he had made the decision to leave to keep me safe.
I put my phone on my nightstand and laid down , feeling a mix of emotions.
The next day, I woke up exhausted. I couldn't stop thinking about Khalil and the way he had left the night before. But I knew that I couldn't let it hold me back, so I decided to focus on my summer program.
As I made my way to class, I took in how beautiful the campus was. The beautiful nature that surrounded me, and the peace and calm it brought. It helped me to clear my mind from some of this.
"Hey Jen,wait up! Aubrey ran up from behind. She was an early morning person and I am...not.She had left the apartment hours before I got up. One day I'll be as disciplined as her. Perhaps that just wishful thinking. I always admired how people would make the most of their days.
"Hey Aubrey".
"Where you headed?"
"Biochem"
"Me too!
Her excitement so early was partially funny and partially annoying.
On our way to class we came across a few other students in the program.
