Hadley's POV
It's been a whole month since Tyler and I left Mystic Falls to break his sire bond to the big bad hybrid and despite the challenge of him turning over and over, experiencing the worst pain in his life it had actually been fun since Ty and I haven't ever spent this much time together in our entire lives and for some reason traipsing through the Appalachian Mountains, sleeping under the stars, spending some days in backhoe towns in bars getting drunk and goofing off together was some of the best times we've ever experienced but around two weeks ago our duo turned into a trio when we met a girl...Hayley Marshall.
At first I didn't trust the girl but during one of Tyler's more difficult turns she'd shown up and just managed to help me restrain him in time when he'd gotten free to avoid my own brother from tearing out my throat and since then we'd been a team chaining Tyler up all over the mountains and joining us in our adventures but sadly Tyler was adamant that he felt different...more himself as he kept reminding me but the only way we would know for sure was to test it which is why we'd left Hayley at a motel leaving in the night so that she wouldn't follow given we'd lied about where we came from and were now on our way back to horrible Mystic Falls.
"Come on Tyler" I complained moving my backpack further up my back turning to Tyler who was once again checking his phone for a signal since he wanted to let Caroline know that we were on our way back but we had to stop by Wytheville which is where I'd stashed my car before we started this endeavor a month ago since hiking and sleeping outdoors was a lot easier to accomplish our task meaning my beloved car had to be stashed away for safe keeping until we could return. "I'm sure Caroline will last one more day without contact from you"
"Shut up" he shrugged off as we continued to trek down the mountain, it was a three hour walk to the town then a 2 ½ hour drive back to Mystic Falls so he'd literally be seeing her in five hours.
"We both know that's not gonna happen" I smirked and he rolled his eyes at me before shoving my shoulder making me laugh and nudge him back as we both laughed. "Seriously through Ty you're gonna see her in less than five hours, so let's just enjoy the rest of the time we have left since we both know once were back in Mystic Falls the fun stops"
"Yeah" he sighed before nodding his head. "This has been pretty fun except for the times I turned obviously" I nodded my head since those times weren't exactly ideal for me either given there were quite a few missed calls from his teeth and claws once he turned and was overrun with his instincts. "Hey remember that hot dog contest you entered?" he asked and I burst out laughing.
"Yeah, that guy was so shocked when I beat him"
"Well obviously, the guy was like 900 pounds and you were scoffing them down without a breath"
"Made us $1000 bucks, didn't it?" we laughed again before finally seeing the town a short distance away and I sighed in relief. "Civilization, at last"
"Your such a girl sometimes"
"I take that as a compliment baby bro"
"Your like two years older than me" he complained making me laugh as we continued our trek down into town and I easily found the storage yard that held my car and approached the office.
"Excuse me!" I called out seeing it empty and rang the bell on the desk.
"Why hello" I frowned at the reply as a guy came out from the back room. "What can I help you with?"
"I want to cancel the payments on locker 713 and to get the keys" I told him watching as he looked it up on his computer while I turned watching Tyler outside since he was still a baby vamp learning to control his thirst and this place was on a particularly busy street.
