As the alarm blared Miranda opened her eyes and turned off the alarm. She got out of bed and went into the bathroom, after using it, she brushed her teeth, washed her face and got ready for work. Stepping over the broken glass, she grabbed her purse from from the kitchen island and walking out, making sure the door is locked behind her.She pulled into her parking
space and got out the car. Walking into the hospital she said her hello's and went straight to the Attendings locker room. She always went in earlier than she had to which meant the room was usually emptyAfter changing into scrubs she made her way to the doctors lounge. Walking in she spotted Richard sitting at the table talking to an unfamiliar face, Richard and the unfamiliar man turned their heads as she walked in.
"Morning, Chief" she said, walking over to coffee maker.
"Good morning, Dr. Bailey"
She poured her coffee and moved to sit next to Richard, across from the mystery dude.
"Hi I'm Dr. Benjamin Warren, the new chief of Trauma" He said holding out a hand to her.
She shook it, looking into his eyes. He wasn't smiling nor frowning, he actually had a face Miranda knew all to well. His eyes showed hidden hurt, he had a straight face but a hint of friendliness. She knew nobody knew, because people like her were always good at hiding it......... He, was like her.
"I'm Dr. Miranda Bailey, Head of General Surgery" she said.
"shoot Bailey I have a meeting, do you think you could show Dr. Warren around for me?" Richard asked looking at his watch and standing up.
"Yea, of course chief" she responded sipping her coffee. They watched as Richard walked out the door. "we should get going before interns start crowding the halls".
He nodded and followed her out the door into the halls, "wow she's really short" he thought to himself while following her as she pointed out all of the different rooms.
They were halfway through the tour, and she was showing him where the or board was. "and this is the or board" while they were there, the two looked at the board memorizing their surgeries for the day. A tall figure walked up and stood on the other side of Ben.
"Hi, you must be new here I'm Dr. Nicole Baylow, general surgery" The Tall, blonde Blue eyed woman smirked introducing herself.
Hearing her introduce herself made Miranda roll her eyes and internally groan as she recalled the countless times Dr. Baylow had tried to embarrass her as a intern, as if being the only female her year wasn't hard enough plus her height.
"Dr. Warren, Head of Trauma" He replied still looking at the board, not giving her the time of day.
"No first name?" She asked still grinning.
"You'll be fine with using Dr. Warren" his words made Miranda want to burst into a fit of laughter, but she held it in.
"Dr. Baylow don't you have patients to check on?" Miranda asked finally making her presence known.
"No"
"Well here" Miranda walked over to the nurses station and grabbed 3 binders full of scut and other tasks that needed to be done. "This scut isn't gonna finish itself" she placed the binders in Dr. Baylow's hands.
Dr. Baylow walked away pissed, " that was badass Dr. Bailey" Ben exclaimed still watching Nicole speed walk down the the hall embarrassed.
"Yea I know, now where were we"
After the tour she showed him to the pit, introduced him to some of the interns, and residents, and left him to do his job.
*couple hours later*
Miranda was sitting on the couch in the attendings lounge finishing her post-op notes when Callie walked in and sat next to her.
"yes Callie?" she asked.
" I know its hard, and your gonna deny it, but I'm basically your bestfriend so you don't have to" she started, " I'm divorced too y'know it's hard, seeing someone you loved so much just give it all up. George broke my heart into a million pieces when he cheated, and I'm sure Tucker did the same to." Miranda began to cry and Callie wrapped her arms around her, letting her cry on her shoulder and patting her back. They pulled apart, "Now suck it up, you are Dr. Miranda Bailey The General Surgery God. You spike fear into the hearts of interns, residents, attendings, and sometimes the chief, ill be damned if I let you cry over Tucker. You deserve to be happy, with someone that you love and someone that loves you back." Miranda nodded and wiped her tears
"ok"
"good" The two settled back into the couch just as Ben walked in. "Warren! Just the person I was looking for"
"really?" he responded surprised walking to his locker.
"actually no, any male could answer my question, but I suppose you'll do"
"Shoot" he said encouraging her to ask.
"Are you sure it's a very forward"
"Positive" he said leaning against the lockers.
"How do I know if a girl actually likes you, or just wants to sleep with you without hurting your feelings"
Miranda watched in shock waiting for him to answer "well, it depends on who the woman is, most wouldn't get attached it'd be a one night stand, but then again some only want a first base relationship nothing more than boyfriend/girlfriend because they're scared of commitment". "Why do you ask?"
Callie took a breath while the two awaited her answer. "I'm going on a date with Erica Hahn, and umm that's awkward because she's a colleague, and she's a she." Miranda sat that with her mouth slightly open and eyes wide while Ben sat across from them surprised. "There's been kissing but uh, and what if I'm not into it" she said turning to face Miranda. "What if I'm horrible, a- at all that stuff..... south..... of the border, cause I've never been south of the border" she paused. "With a female, I mean I've never even been over the northern mountains" she said turning to face Ben. "ya know?".
"Actually I don't, but teenage Ben does. Ya know?"
Miranda sat there still dumbfounded by the conversation that was taking place in front of her. "I- I'm gonna uhh excuse myself from this conversation." She said standing up and walking towards the door.
"Wait what about your post op notes?" Ben asked.
"Don't worry, I'll come back" she said before walking out of the door.
Miranda's shift ended and she headed home after getting all of her stuff.
She walked into the empty apartment, feeling slightly better than she did before. Stepping over the broken glass and sitting her stuff down. She looked around for the broom, after finding it she swept up the glass and threw it away. Throwing the glass away put her in a cleaning mood, so she cleaned. Cleaned her room and bathroom, the both guest rooms, and hallway bathroom. In the midst of cleaning she connected her phone to the Bluetooth speaker on her kitchen counter and pressed shuffle on her playlist.
Cue the music
She started cleaning the kitchen humming along with the song, she grabbed a step stool and placed it in front of the pantry, she turned around, grabbed the knife set, stepped onto the step stool and placed the set on the very back of the top shelf without hesitation. After finishing the kitchen she moved to the living room.
Walking straight to the fireplace she looked at all of the pictures in their frames. She picked them up one by one, only the ones that had anything to do with Tucker and threw them in the trash. Once she was content with the living room she went to her room. Looking over at her jewelry box she approached it. She took out her engagement ring, and all the other jewelry pieces he gave to her. After finding a box to put them in she sat on the edge of her bed, still not tired. After she showered and put on a fresh set of scrubs and grabbed her things putting the box in her bag.
