I lay there on the beach, immersed in thoughts and memories, until the sun shows the first glimmers of morning from across the ocean.  The light wakes me out of my daze.

"crap." I say aloud, standing up. I must have completely forgotten what I came out here for. I probably only have a couple of hours until Daisy and her family wake up.  I need to ask around town, maybe their already looking for me. I mean, they saw me, didnt they? JJ wouldn't just forget about me. Walking into town, the hustle and bustle reminds me of my home, the Outer Banks. I can tell immediately, I attract attention.  People whisper to each other quietly as I walk by. Conversations die, and people stare, taking in everything they can see until a man with yellow work pants, and a black faded t-shirt yells out to me,

"whatchu doin out here missey? aint got nothin for you out here. better to jus' run on home."

"Im looking for my friends." people lean into our conversation, "maybe youve seen them? Their names are J-"

"Aint seen no one new 'round here. "cept a couple white kids wrecking our crab season I guess."

"What did they look like!" I feel excitement rising in me.

"er- there was blondie, a pretty girl who was always with blondie. Kie, JJ

"....and a boy with big hair and a girlfriend. I knew they was together when they started making out on my goddamned dock."

"Where did you see them go? Did they go this way? a scary thought enters my brain. "were they caught?"

" 'course they werent missey, scoundrels like them ne'er are. They went thattaway." He points down the beach.

"See that smoke risin in the distance? thatll be the rascals, using crab season for their own good."  I shower the man in the yellow pants with thank yous, before running off towards the faint smoke in the distance. Daisy might wake up, I might not be there. I dont care.
