Since today was Evangeline and I's first day at our new school, our families decided to have a barbecue.

So right now were sitting at the table in Evangeline's backyard eating our meal.

"So how was school today?" My mom asks us.

"It was fine once we found someone to help us." V says shrugging.

"Why didn't Zane help you?" Evangeline's step dad John asks us while looking at Zane.

"He was off with Logan." I say to John.

"Zane. We told you to help your sisters today." Evangeline's mom Anne told him.

"Cordeliah isn't my sister." Zane says.

"She's close enough to be your sister." V says defending me.

"Enough you two!" John says

V and I give Zane a death glare before dropping the subject.

"Will you pass the watermelon please?" V asks politely.

Our families are both very polite and they expect us to be polite around them to. We don't know what happened with Zane. And being country and all it's always ma'am and sir to others. It's just how we were raised.

My Mom passes the watermelon to V.

"Here you go sweetie." My mom says to her.

"Thank you Kora." V says as she takes the watermelon.

Zane and Evangeline call my mom Kora. Just like I call their mom and dad John and Anne. They would probably call my Dad by his first name to but I have seen my Dad in seven years. He left on a business trip when I was nine and he never came back. We don't know where he is.

V puts the watermelon on the table and I hand her the salt. I know she likes salt on her watermelon just like I do.

"Thanks Cory." She says.

"Yup!" I say taking a piece of watermelon from the plate.

Evangeline takes a piece and puts it on the plate.

I notice Zane looking at me, he catches my eye and mouths something to me. It looked like 'no salt' but I'm not sure so I discreetly flip him off.

Evangeline picks up the salt to put some on her watermelon. When she turns it over the lid falls off and the shaker empties onto her plate.

She lets out a surprised scream.

"Woah V! What did you do?" Kohl asks her.

She gives him a quick look before looking at her parents.

"Mom, Dad." She says testing her own patience. She knows that if she tells them this was Zane's fault they wont believe her and she would just get grounded.

"Huh. I guess I didn't tighten it enough when I filled it today." Anne says looking at Evangeline.

I glance at Zane and he's looking at Evangeline with an amused look.

"Yeah. That's what happened." Evangeline says with her teeth clenched.

"Evangeline, calm down. It was just a bit of salt." John says sternly.

"A bit of salt?" V says angrily.

"Evangeline." Anne says even more stern than John.

"Mom." V says.

My Mom and Kohl are just watching like the argument is a tennis match. Just like they usually do...

Evangeline takes a deep breath. "Mom, I saw you put the lid on it. You put it on tight. Someone-"
