My bloodshot eyes flew open, and I gasped for air as my body flung straight up. My heart pounded in my chest and I felt the familiar presence of salty tears in my eyes. Sobs racked my body as I hugged my knees in a feeble attempt to comfort myself.

Another nightmare had pulled me out of my sleep-- this one worse than last night's. I decided that fresh air would help me greatly, so I slipped on my houseshoes and my robe, walking to the balcony I shared with my best friend, Loki. Tony had made us roomates when Thor brought his brother to join the avengers, and we immediately bonded.

The frosty air of the night calmed my nerves as I sat on the lounge chair. It had just turned autumn, my favorite time of the year, three days ago. The wind blew a few stray hairs out of my bun, and dried the tears in my eyelids. Normally I would just make myself some tea and sit in my bedroom until morning, but this nightmare has been the worst one yet.

My grandmother had passed away merely two weeks ago, and I have yet to move on even remotely. I was very close with her, and she was my rock. Now she's gone. A sob escaped my lips as I thought of her.

"Y/N?" A voice called.

I whipped my head around to find my best friend standing at the door in his pajamas, a worried expression on his face. His eyes softened at my tear-stained face, and he made his way over to me, immediately pulling me into his embrace. I cried into Loki's arms as he whispered sweet nothings into my ear in an attempt to comfort me.

"You're alright darling, you're okay my sweet. Let it out." He whispered, tucking my head underneath his chin. I gripped onto his shirt tightly and buried my face into his warm neck as I sobbed uncontrollably.

We stayed like that for a few more moments until my sobs had turned into nothing more than sniffles and small whimpers. Loki rubbed my back soothingly and pulled away to look at me. The feeling of the cold air hit me, making me shiver.

His hands rubbed my arms as he spoke, "What is the matter dove?"

Fresh tears pooled in my eyes as I told him every detail of my horrific dream. He frowned deeply as I explained, and he brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear. Once I had told Loki everything, his hands cupped my cheeks and he kissed my forehead gently. My heart warmed at his caring nature, one that I quickly learned he only used with me.

Loki hooked his arms underneath my thighs and back, scooping me up into his arms and carried me inside of the warm living room, sitting us down on the couch. I sat sideways in his lap and he cradled me to his chest, the fabric of his shirt soft against my cheek. He smelled of mint and the faintest hint of cinnamon which comforted me even more.

His hand rubbed my arm slowly, as the other held the side of my leg, his thumb tracing shapes. My eyes closed, his comforting caress luring me back to sleep. I fought off the drowsiness weakly. I wanted to enjoy being held by him for as long as possible.

"Sleep darling, I will be here when you awaken." He whispered. The sleepiness clouded my mind, and I kissed his jaw without thinking, falling asleep in his embrace.

I woke to soft strokes in my hair. I looked up, seeing Loki watching the television intently while playing with my hair. He must have noticed me stir as he looked down at me with a caring smile.

"Good morning Y/N." He said, smoothing my hair. My eyes closed as he braided my hair gently, the small tugs sending comforting tingles down my spine. "Would you like some breakfast?" Loki asked, his thumb caressing my cheek. I leaned into his hand and nodded weakly. My eyes stung from last night, along with my throat.

He set me gently down onto the cushions, draping a blanket over me, and pressed a kiss to my cheek as he made his way into the kitchen. I felt my cheeks warm at the intimate gesture. I have had feelings for Loki ever since he entered my life almost a year ago, and last night's events made me fall for him harder.

The clashing of pans and muttered curses pulled a smile out of me. I rose from the sofa and walked into the kitchen, seeing Loki struggling with the toaster. I pulled the blanket tighter around my freezing body and laid my head against his toned back. What I didn't see was the blush on Loki's cheeks and the increase in his heartrate as my face nuzzled into his back.

"You sound like you're going through a war in here." I said, my voice muffled by his shirt.

He chuckled and turned around, pulling me into a hug. I sighed contently, my smile growing. My arms encircled his waist and I giggled into his chest. Loki's smile widened, and he looked down at me with a loving gaze. Another thing I didn't know was that he was also absolutely smitten with me the way I was with him.

Loki pulled me away slightly, just enough to where I could see his face, and squeezed my hips gently, his thumbs rubbing my hipbones. My arms slung around his neck lazily, sending butterflies to his stomach.

"Thank you Loki, for everything. I was an absolute wreck last night, and you made me feel so much better." I said, smiling up at him. You could have sworn you saw him blush ever so slightly, but it must just be your mind playing tricks on you. "You're welcome love."

That was a new nickname, and you definitely liked it. One of Loki's hands slid from your hip to your lower back and under your tank-top, rubbing the bare skin. The feeling of his warm, ever so slightly rough, hand on your skin made you blush deeply, your chest tingling.

Loki grabbed the blanket that had started slipping from your shoulders and wrapped it tightly around you. He pulled you in by the blanket and pressed a sweet kiss to your nose. The blush already burning your cheeks grew hotter and you grinned up at him.

He turned back around to finish cooking, and you threw yourself back onto the sofa, making him laugh from the kitchen.

Around fifteen minutes later, Loki strode into the room with two plates of pancakes. My eyes lit up at the sight of them.

"Ehehehe-- I couldn't figure out that blasted toaster." He said, embarrassed. I smiled up at him as I took the plate from his grasp. "It's okay Loki."

He sat down next to me and I laid my head against his shoulder as I ate. He had turned on my favorite movie.

Once we had finished eating, Loki set our plates on the coffee table and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me into his side. I smiled, and looked up at him. Every detail of his face was perfection. His long raven locks, his cheekbones, his sharp jawline-- I could go on for days.

"You're staring darling." He said, a blush obvious on his face. Your heart leaped as his eyes locked with yours. Loki wore a soft smile on his face as he looked down at you. Time seemed to stand still as you stared into his emerald irises. His hand cupped your cheek, using his thumb to run circles on your jaw, and his eyes flickered from yours to your lips.

You nodded, answering his silent question. Loki leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. His lips felt like heaven, soft and warm. You had only ever dreamed of this moment.

He smiled into the kiss, pulling you closer to him. Your arms wound around his neck and you straddled his lap, his hands moving to your hips, giving them a gentle squeeze. His lips pulled away from yours, panting. You smiled down at him and kissed him once more, leading to a lot more than you expected that night.
