Imagine your comfort character coming home slightly slumped over with eyes tracing the ground. You greet them like normal, but something seems wrong. You try to cheer them up in the ways you know best (silly dances, cheesy jokes, good food, hugs, cuddles), but it doesn't seem to work.

After a long time of nothing working, you place a hand on your comfort character's face. You gently tilt their chin so you can make eye contact.

"Hey. Are you okay?" You ask softly.

At your simple question, you comfort character's walls break down. They tell you all about the problems they've been dealing with, finally letting out the pent up emotions. They are vulnerable with you, and let you see a side of them that no one else gets to see. You listen carefully to their problems and try to give some advice, but are mostly there as a comfort. After your comfort character finishes venting, they give you a soft smile and thank you for being there for them when they need it the most.
