Damon is a boy who is in Kalypso's class at school. He has always found that there is something different (in a good way) about Kalypso..she's special.
She is always so nice and seems so happy, she makes everybody smile. But he sees the way she looks down when she thinks no one is looking, and even when she is smiling he can tell it's forced, and he knows she is hiding a lot of pain and sadness deep inside her.
Why though? Does she not see how amazing she is? She changed a whole town. Damon remembers his years as a little kid, it was so terrible. Everyone was always yelling at eachother nobody cared for anyone. But then it was like a miracle suddenly Kalyspo came along and she was happy and she was nice to everybody no matter what they did to her. And her forgiveness and understanding and kindness touched everybody and helped them change and become better people. She was just so wonderful!!!
He wanted to talk to her so bad, he hated knowing she was sad, but how could she even want to talk to someone like him, a lowly commoner.
But he had to summon up his courage to do it; better to embarrass himself than not go up and watch the sadness consume her.
