"Wait!" cried a voice from behind her.

Kalypso spun around. A friendly face peered at Kalyspso in concern. How was this possible, no one had been there just moments before! "Who are you?"

"I'm Achelois, the goddess of happiness!" she smiled.

"Why are you here?"

"I'm here to help you be happy!"

"Well, I was about to be happy, except then you stopped me."

"Trust me, killing yourself won't make you happy."

"Yes it will! I'll be back home as an angel, where I belong," Kalypso retorts. Who was this 'goddess', thinking she knew everything?

"If you go, you will regret it."

"Why would I? I have made this town a much better place. They are all happy now! They wouldn't care if I'm gone anyway."

"You really think that?" said Achelois. She stepped towards the edge of the bridge. "Look down," she told Kalyspso. She did, and she saw an image forming in the water.

"This is what your town will be like, if you leave them."

First the vision focused on Damon, as he found the note.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Damon bent and picked up the paper stuck in the tree. It said Damon, so he unfolded it and read it. As he skimmed through it, his face switched through emotions- confusion, comprehension, horror, and finally, pain. Tears started streaming down his face. Soon he was shaking uncontrollably, sobbing, "No! No, no, no...I'm sorry," and he kept saying sorry over and over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kalyspso's heart broke seeing him like that. She'd never meant to hurt him..she thought it was best for him this way.
The vision skipped through several years, showing him as a young man. By this age usually men were married and starting families, but...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Damon stop moping around you need to get out live your life! Get a job, get married!" shouted his mother.
"I'm not getting married! I would be betraying Kalypso!"
"I get that you loved her, we all did but you need to get over it! It's not like you died too. All you've done the past few years is sit in bed crying and it's high time you get over it and actually DO something!"
"Why can't you just shut up, don't tell me how to live my life!" he yells back. "I don't even want to live it anyway," he mutters.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kalypso gasped. How could this happen? She wasn't that important to him..she'd only been talking to him for about a month. He was supposed to get over it and be happy! She couldn't bear to see him like this. And he never used to be that mean.

"He takes your death worst of all, but everyone else also takes it hard, and many people go back to being cruel," Achelois sighed.

The water changed to show Kaypso's foster mother.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why would she do this? She was so happy!"
Callidora is also crying. "My little sister, dead!"
Her mother yells at her. "This is your fault! You wanted to take her in. If we hadn't she would have been happier with another family. And you wanted her anyway you could've cared for her more! And it's that Damon guy's fault too he walked with her every day he must've been awful and made her miserable!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"How can she think that?! Of course it's not their fault it's nobody's fault I can't be happy here."

"Actually you are wrong. You can be happy here. You just won't let yourself believe it. You focus on the negative parts of your life when you could be enjoying the good parts. What you do is you think about all the bad things and you think, I can't be happy if this is all wrong, you aren't letting yourself feel happy. Instead you have to think, Yes this is wrong, but this is good, and good overpowers the bad. Even if you have more bad, it just means you have to work even harder to find the good moments and enjoy them more!"

"I guess," Kalypso sighed.

"Look at how much people care about you! You mean so much to them. They don't want you to leave!"

"I don't want to leave them, either!" she cried. "I just hate the negative emotions. It's just too much."

"But," the goddess counters, "they are unique. In heaven you don't know these emotions, but you have learned so much from them! You need to know these negative feelings in order to be able to truly have happiness mean something to you. You don't understand joy if you haven't felt pain."

"No-" Kalypso started.

The goddess cut her off. "In heaven, it wasn't truly happiness. I think deep down you know that. Everything was so much easier, because you didn't know all these confusing emotions swirling around everywhere. There was just the one...but you couldn't appreciate it. And it was boring.
Isn't it better if you experience these human emotions, at least for one life?"

Kalypso realized that Achelois was right. But there was one thing....

"Why did Zeus want me to come here to bring happiness and love everywhere if you are saying we need that hate and anger?"

Achelois smiled. "He didn't want you to get rid of those emotions; he just needed them added. What is the point of life without love? It's awful."

"Yeah, it is.."

"Of course you would know that! You were there.. But you brave through. You are so strong for that. And look at how far you've come! I'm so proud of you," she said, smiling at Kalypso.
"Well my presence here isn't needed anymore, at least not for now! And I predict it won't be needed any time soon either." She winked at Kalypso.

They bid their goodbyes and Kalypso ran home.

The sun was slowly starting to peel out when she arrived. Her mother and Callidora were just waking up. She ran in and barged into the kitchen where they were making breakfast.

"Mom!" she cried.

Her mother spun around. "What is it, child?" she snapped.

Kalypso rushed into her arms and squeezed her tight. "Thank you for taking me in. I love you."

Callidora's mom softened. "I love you too."
