The car ride would have been unbearably quite if it wasn't for Sakura's nervous chatter and the low music coming from the radio. It wasn't that Sasuke was intentionally trying to avoid her but it became his body's natural response after remembering his dream. Sakura wasn't aware but her every move caused a reaction with in him. And Sasuke decided that he hated it. He hated how his body involuntarily stiffened as she shuffled in her seat or how wet his palms got when he drove or even how his stomach seemed to vibrate when she laughed. He hated it all.
"So how come you picked me up in Kakashi's truck and not in you're bike?" Sakura said trying to brake the tension she sensed as he drove. " ...It's  easier." He said (That way I would avoid having you so close.) he mentally nodded to himself in relief. "Mmmm.." Sakura hummed towards the dry response. (Is it me or is he back to his reserved self. I thought we had made a brake through that night with the bike ride. I guess it was all in my head) Sakura thought quietly to herself. She couldn't explain it but the thought brought with it a dull pain.
Sasuke seemed to notice how quiet she had gotten. Had he said something wrong again? Come off too passive aggressive? Or was he overthinking it? What did it matter? It shouldn't have mattered, right? But it did matter because it nagged at him, annoyingly so. He tapped his finger nervously on the steering wheel as he came to a red light. His eyes gave a quick side glance with out meaning to, only to see that she had shifted away from him and was looking out the window. (Crap) maybe he did do something wrong. His mind began to run haywire all the while he acted calm and collected.
It wasn't until the lyrics of a song interrupted his chaos that he stopped to listen.
"Give me a second, I need to get my story straight, my friends are in the bathroom, getting higher than the Empire State."
The song took him back to the first night the two had unofficially met. He remembered how the pinkette sang with her friend. How she danced around like she had no care in the world. His hand subconsciously turned the volume up catching Sakura's attention as he did.
Her gaze left the outside world and was brought back to the radio. She shifted towards him in confusion. "I didn't think these were your types of songs." Sakura said as a smirk crept up her face. "What? I thought this was your song." He said as he caught a glimpse of her before looking back at the road. "My song?" Sakura ask as she tilted her head in confusion. "...don't you remember? The night I first saw you, you were singing this song at the karaoke machine." He said while avoid her gaze. (Crap! Why did I say that!? 'The night I first saw you' are you serious!? ) Sasuke mentally facepalmed himself over his stupid trip up.
His small blush of embarrassment went unnoticed by Sakura as she was in fact dealing with her own.  Sakura's face went red. She had no memory of that. "W-what!? I- I don't remember that at all!" She blurted. She brought her hands up to cover her face in embarrassment. (Oh my god how could I do something so stupid in front of him like that. I wish I hadn't drank so much! God I'm so embarrassed!) Sakura quickly turned her upper body towards him only to bow down as many times as she could in apology. "I'm sorry! I'm normally not like that!" She said as she looked down trying to hide her redden face from him.
Normally he would of found the excessive loudness in her voice to be annoying, but today he found it perfectly amusing. "Heh.. don't apologize. I've seen people do stupider things when they're drunk, compared to that." He said while letting out a small snicker. Sakura took a break from feeling embarrassed to focus on his small laugh. She rose her head. Hands still plastered on her face in embarrassment. Parting her pinkies so that her eyes could witness the miracle happening before her. It was the first time she had heard him laugh.
So rare it felt like she had spotted a unicorn wearing a tiny hat. She brought her hands down and gave a laugh of her own. "Hahahah. I forgot you work at a bar. You must have a lot of amazing stories then." She said as she leaned her head on her hand and looked at him.
And there it was. The sound that made his stomach feel weird. He hated it, he told himself as his grip on the wheel tightened. Though, as much as he told himself he hated it, his mind didn't seem to want it to stop. "I wouldn't call them amazing stories..." he said as he remembered when a drunk Naruto went to pet his mom's newly rescued fox only to get bit right after. Or the time Kakashi had called him crying , talking about his favorite porn book.
"...yeah definitely not amazing." He said again as he ran a hand through his hair. "Amazing or not, I would like to hear them. Maybe that way I will feel less embarrassed about mine. Hahahha"
And just like that the car ride began to feel normal. All the nervousness had fallen away from them as they began to converse like they had been long time friends.
