chapter 34

" May I help you miss" the lady at the front desk of the 5th hospital we've tried, Triton Medical Center

I wiped the tears from my face " Yes, I was looking for a patient who might have been admitted in here a few days ago"

Her thick glasses fell to her nose " Whats her name"

" Kelly Rowland, she was the one hit by the car"

" Oh yes I remember that sweet girl, she was crying about her children."

" Yeah I know, I was babysitting for her"

" Ohhh so you must be Beyonce then" I nodded " Follow me, she has been asking about you for the past couple of days." She stopped at room 445 and I read the chart carefully to make sure it was her " Here we are, you go on in."

" Is she awake, I don't want to disturb her"

" Yes I believe she is, she hasn't gotten that much sleep since she's been here"

I nodded " Thank you" I clenched the doorknob in my hand and took in a deep breath as she walked away

" Don't be scared, be happy" I looked down at Adriana and smiled. She was right. I should be happy that Kelly was alive. I gently touched her cheek and opened the door

" Nurse, I told you I was fine" Kelly said looking towards the window. I set Adrianna on the floor

" MOMMY" she yelled running over to her bed. Kelly's neck turned quickly as her eyes filled with tears. She tried to reach down and pick her up, but I could tell that she was in so much pain. She could barely move from the spot she was in. I walked over to the bed and picked and placed Adrianna on the bed next to Kelly's side. She kissed her face, making me smile. Shawn carried the baby over and placed her on the other side of Kelly. She held them both in their arms as she cried softly

" thank you so much Beyonce...I don't know what I would do without you"

I pulled up a chair next to her with Shawn standing by me " I'm sorry you had to find out, but you know what"

She ran her fingers through Arianna's hair " What?"

" Maybe I can arrange so that you won't have to do it again"

She shook her head " It sounds like a good idea, but I want to give it some time. I wanna make sure that its safe for my babies"

I nodded " I understand, but I promise you that it is. What they say isn't usually true. Not where we live anyway"

Kelly looked up towards Shawn " I am so sorry, I didn't get to meet you, I'm Kelly"

They shook hands " I'm Shawn, Bee's-" I cut him off

" That's just my baby daddy," I said, imitating that song.

We laughed and he pushed me " Naw im her boyfriend"

" It's good to meet you"

They smiled at each other, and I smiled too. This could be a fresh start to an old friendship

" So tell me what happened Kelly." she looked off towards the side. I grabbed a hold of her bruised hand. She turned and looked at me. Shawn had taken the kids downstairs to get something to drink so we were alone " Kelly it's alright, you can tell me anything remember"

She took a deep breath " After I left your house, I went straight to Wal-Mart. Because of traffic it took me almost half an hour to 45 minutes, when I got there I decided to fill out the application and get a few things from the store while I was there. I saw Trey...he snatched me up by the arm and pushed me in the bathroom, where he asked me if I gave the girls up for adoption yet. I told him no, and thats when he snapped. He started beating the shit out of me. Once he was done, I got cleaned up, filled out the papers and left. In the parking lot, I heard a horn. When I turned to see what it was, I saw Trey driving towards me at a fast pace." she lowered her head and started to cry " B-b-before I could even blink, or run, he had crashed into my side. And then he just got out of the car and started to run. He left me in an almost empty parking lot to die. Luckily someone found me, and called the police. I was unconscious for a couple of hours after arriving. I tried to get in touch with you, bu the house number was busy, and you changed your cell phone number...im sorry all of this had to happen"

I wiped her face " Stop apologizing Kelz, that was the past, and I think that it's time we both start looking towards the future."

She laid her head back on the pillow " Yeah...so this Shawn that your seeing"

" Look here you lil hoe, I may not have said that much about Trey, but for Shawn, I'll whoop that ass"

She laughed and rolled her eyes " look here lil bitch, I've learned my lesson about hurting the ones you love. Besides, I can see that you're really taken by him...you must really be in love"

"I am. My love for him is so strong I can barely contain it when we're together"

" Aww now that's sweet B" She looked me over for a second " Wait, hold up...a few days ago, didn't you say that you were pregnant"

I smiled and touched my stomach " Yeah...2 months"

We shared a moment before she spoke again " What are you hoping to have"

I shrugged a bit " I don't know, but Shawn wants a girl" she had this shocked look on her face " Oh my gosh Kelly he told me that he wanted a girl so that he can spoil her while she growing up, and when she feels like no one in the world loves her, he said he wants to hug her, and kiss her cheek, and tell her that 'daddy loves you' ...Girl I almost died right there. It was too sweet"

She smiled and then sucked her teeth " Man you always get the good ones"

" Oh i'm sure that you will find someone who will love you and those little girls as much as you do"

" Yeah I hope so..."

One Week Later

Kelly and the girls are doing so much better. My dad is letting them stay with him until futher notice. Knowing him they might be there forever. But when Shawn and I got back to New York we ran into a joyous moment. Our parents had broken up. All of Shawn's dad's stuff was moved out, and my mom had been on several dates, trying to forget about him. We figured this was the perfect time to tell them about the baby and how we want to be together with or without their approval....

" Ma are you alright" I asked walking into her bedroom with Mya and Shawn close behind me

" Yeah i'm good Bee, whats up"

" Nothing, I just wanted to see if you had the time to talk"

" Actually I wanted to talk to you about something very important, it involves Mya and Shawn too"

I looked back at them " Okay go ahead, we're listening"

" I'm leaving"

" Ma what do you mean you're leaving"

" My job is calling me overseas for a building fund for hotels in Europe and Asia"

" How long are you staying"

She bit down on her bottom lip " 6 months tops"

" What does that have to do with Mya and Shawn"

She pulled Mya towards her and held her close. " I can't take Mya with me...she's gonna have to stay with yall. Since Corey is gone, I need someone to take care of her"

Shawn and I looked at each other " Ummm that would be great. When do you leave"

" Next Tuesday"

" NEXT TUESDAY, MA THAT'S 4 DAYS AWAY"

" I know, but trust me, it will be worth it when they money comes in" Mya broke away from her, and ran towards her room

" Don't worry ma, I'll talk to her" I pushed Shawn out the door and we closed it behind us " How are we supposed to tell her now"

Shawn shrugged his shoulders " I don't know, we'll figure it out before she leaves" I looked away, but he kissed my forehead " Don't worry iight, we got time...but I think Mya needs her big sister right now" I nodded and walked towards Mya's room. It took a while to get her to understand, but once I did, she finally calmed down. Shawn and I went home, but I still couldn't figure out how I was gonna break the news to my mom.
