7 A.M.

Aquamarine eyes had been darting from his paperwork to the clear window of his office since 6. 45 A.M, the exact same time when he had first laid his eyes on her just the day before.

People-watching, practising the art of observation, honing the skills that he required to be a good diagnostician.

At least those were the excuses he had made to himself, as his persistent eyes searched the entrance of the hospital from his office. Many people, patients and staff had entered and left the office in that fifteen minutes alone. However, even Ethan could not decipher for himself on why exactly he was so interested about the view that had been looking at for close to a decade already.

Maybe it was the way he had almost choked on his coffee the morning before when he had seen her for the first time. Maybe it was the way her emerald eyes lit up in recognition of him, right before she had rushed to his side to help him with the patient. Maybe it was the grin on her face, the faintest of dimples on her cheeks as she laughed at her own joke from the Chuckles Gum wrapper she had asked him to give his patient.

She was a mystery he had yet to discover nor understand fully. She failed to treat a patient with proper care initially, but figured it out in the end. Outside the hospital she was carefree, popular even and yet, she had approached him, the one man in the entire bar that everyone would have left to brood. However, she entered the lion's den willingly, boldly, and left unscathed, charming the hell out of the beast.

How? Why? What?

Every single sighting of her left him with more questions.

Rookie.

A mystery that he was determined to solve.

Ethan's eyes averted to the window again and this time, they spotted what he was looking for.

Caramel hair. Emerald eyes. Pink Lips.

The image engraved in his mind like a lasting echo.

He observed her, dark circles under her eyes though they remained bright. A sweet smile on her lips as she greeted the security guard, Bobby, one of his favourite people in the hospital. He watched as she exchanged a few words with him before continuing her journey. Another addition suddenly came in the form of a shorter doctor. The same intern who had lied about Dr. Toussaint the previous day to save her fellow-intern, Ethan recognized. She was at the bar with the Rookie too, he remembered.
