23: Confusion

(A FEW DAYS LATER)

"Kyra, are you free now?" Mr. Kim, our homeroom teacher called out to me.

"Yes Mr. Kim?"

"Do you think you could help me with something?
I have a meeting in a bit and I needed to get something done..."

"Ohh sure sir, what is it?"

"I needed help in updating some student details in the school database.
Someone else had done it before but they messed it up😕...

Just go to the office room, and tell Mrs. Lim that I sent you. Okay?"

"Okay, sir.
By when would you like me to get this done?"

"There's about an hour left.

Just check it with these files and make sure it matches.

After you're done, can you bring me a printout of the updated document?" Mr. Kim handed over the files.

"Sure, sir."

I went to the office, informed Mrs. Lim of the work I received, and started working on it.

'What on earth-'

I was stunned on seeing Daniel Park's folder.

Instead of Daniel's photo, there was a picture of Dan😯🤨!

And the address given here, I think I remember Dan saying that was his hometown.

Daniel had said Dan's not going to any school as of now... and that he's preparing for the GED.

What's this then?

I should check that with him, right?

After I was done with the work, I took a printout as per Mr. Kim's instruction and handed it over when he came out after the meeting a few minutes later.

"Thank you so much, Kyra.
Was it too much trouble?
I'm sorry for making you do it instead of me."

"Ohh it's okay sir, it was manageable:)"

'Ohh and before I forget...'

"Also sir, I had some confusion regarding Daniel Park's credentials.

That photo isn't his is it?"

"Oh yeah, I was surprised on seeing his photo too.

He said he's lost a lot of weight recently and that the photo was taken before that.

We contacted his mother and she confirmed that her son is indeed the Daniel Park at our school, so..."

"Ohh, I see...

Thank you for clearing that up, sir.
I'll get going now."

'Something's fishy for sure. Dan lost weight and became Daniel?!

What the heck is going on?'

It was about time for Dan's shift to begin but he was nowhere to be seen.

'Right when you want to meet someone so badly...☹️'

It wasn't until about fifteen minutes later that he came.

He quickly changed into the uniform and started to arrange the boxes of cereal on the shelf.

"Sorry for being late Kyra, I couldn't find my keys", he mumbled.

'Okay, now how do I bring this up?

Should I just state what happened and ask him why there was his photo instead of Daniel's?

It wouldn't make him uncomfortable, would it?
Well, let's try...'

"Dan, I had something I wanted to ask you."

"Sure, what is it?" He asked, still putting up the boxes.

"So, today at school, our class teacher asked me for some help with entering the students' details into the computer.

And while I was going through that, I saw that instead of Daniel's photo, there was a photo of...you."

He suddenly almost froze in his position.

I continued.

"And strangely, when I asked him, he said that Daniel told him that the photo was him before he lost weight.

I mean, there definitely is a resemblance between the both of you, but since I know you personally, I reckoned something was... wrong."

'I am being nosy am I not?'

"Sorry if I'm being nosy.
Don't tell me if you don't want me to know, I was just curious..." I added.

He remained silent.
The silence was getting difficult.

'Looks like I shouldn't have brought that up. He doesn't look very pleasant.'

"Dan, forget I asked anything.
The school's okay with whatever happened, I shouldn't bother.

Sorry if that made you uncomfortable."

"Kyra, it's... a little complicated.
I'll explain it to you later?"

I was glad he said something. I was starting to get worried.

"Whenever you're ready."

"Hey Daniel, hey Kyra!
Look who's back!" I heard Jace's sound at the entrance.

"Who is it-

Ohhh Euntae! You're back!"

"Yes I am. How are you two?"

"We've been well. What about you?
If you're here, does that mean you've paid all that money back?"

"Yepp.
I also learned Muay Thai from Brekdak."

"Yeah, I remember you mentioning that when you called", Dan joined in.

The tension from before began to fade now that they were here.

"Tell us all about it😃"

I kept on contemplating whether or not to put this here, Kyra seeing the records and asking Dan about it.

After much thought, I decided I probably should (because according to the original storyline, Daniel goes into hospital soon, so...)

I don't imagine it's gonna be easy to write the next few chapters, there's a lot of conflict and disturbing events that'll happen shortly in the storyline😟.

But I'll try my best.
