The Little Mermaid

Chapter Six

Aang plays his flute to the tune of the song the girl sang to him. Ever since he was saved by her, she was all he could think about. He didn't really get a clear view of her because of the sun... but he still remembered her voice.

Aang stopped playing and began walking away as Appa barked excitedly, "That voice. I can't get it out of my head." He kneels down next to his dog, "I've looked everywhere, Appa... where could she be?"

Meanwhile, Katara is washed up on shore nearby. She rests on a rock as Pakku and Momo take a breather from swimming her to shore.

Katara pushes her hair out of her face and then notices her new legs. She looks at them, amazed, and wiggles her toes.

"Well, look at what the catfish dragged in!" Bumi said as he flew down to her. He laughs as he lands on her leg, "Look at ya! Look at ya! There's something different. Don't tell me... I got it. It's your hairdo, right? You've been using the dinglehopper, right?" Katara shakes her head with a smile, "No? No, huh, well let me see. New... seashells? No new seashells." Katara begins shaking the leg Bumi was sitting on as she continues, "I gotta admit I can't put my foot on it right now, but if I just stand here long enough I know that I'll-"

"SHE'S GOT LEGS, YOU IDIOT!" Pakku exclaimed, making Bumi fly up and land next to the crab, "She traded her voice to the sea witch and got legs. Jeez, man."

"I knew that."

"Katara's been turned into a human." Momo says as Katara begins to stand, "She's gotta make the prince fall in love with her, and he's gotta ki- he's gotta kiss her!"

Katara struggles to stay standing as Pakku adds, "And she's only got three days!" Katara falls, splashing them with water, "Just look at her! On legs! On human legs! My nerves are shot! This is a catastrophe!" Katara manages to stand as Pakku continues, "What would her father say? I'll tell you what her father'd say, he'd say he's gonna kill himself a crab, that's what her father'd say!"

Katara removes seaweed from her head, "I'm gonna march myself straight home right now and tell him just like I shoulda done the minute-" Katara picks him up and shakes her head, "and don't you shake your head at me, young lady. Maybe there's still time. If we could get that witch to give you back your voice, you could go home with all the normal fish, and just be..." He sees a sad look on her face, "just be... just be miserable for the rest of your life." He sighs, "All right, all right. I'll try to help you find that prince." Katara smiles and gives him a kiss before setting him down, "Boy. What a soft-shell I'm turning out to be."

Bumi flies onto the beach where a small crash sight laid, "Now, Katara, I'm tellin' ya." He grabs a large sail, "If you wanna be a human the first thing you gotta do is dress like one. Now lemme see."

As Bumi figures out how to dress Katara, Aang walks along the beach near them, still sulking about the girl. Appa perks up when he smells a familiar sent.

Appa begins jumping around excitedly and barking, "Appa?"

Appa runs in the direction Katara is, Aang calling after him and chasing him.

Meanwhile, Bumi whistles at Katara's new look. The sail was wrapped around her, held up by ropes that had also been wrapped around her.

"Ya look great kid. Ya look... sensational." Bumi says.

They hear Appa running up to them. Momo quickly hides underwater as the dog bounds through. Pakku runs from Appa and jumps into Katara's pocket. Appa runs to Katara and she quickly jumps onto a rock to get away from the dog.

Appa barks excitedly and licks her, "Appa!" Aang calls.

Appa runs to Aang as he comes into view, "Appa!" Appa barks excitedly, "Quiet Appa! What's gotten into you fella?" He looks up and sees Katara, "Oh..." Appa runs back to her, "Oh, I see."
