Espresso woke up to multiple doctors rushing into the room. The brown haired man looked around, confused as he got out of the bed. "What's going on-?"
"His heartbeat stopped, we need to perform immediate surgery, please wait outside!" One of the nurses ordered, pointing to the door and rushing over to the other doctors, helping.
Espresso's eyes widened, tears dripping down his cheeks. "Madeleine-!" The brown haired man couldn't finish due to being dragged out of the room by two assistants. Espresso started sobbing, pacing back and forth anxiously, hugging himself."He promised..he's going to be alright, he promised.." Espresso tried to take deep breaths but it wasn't working, he just got even more scared, sniffling and wiping his tears.
"He..promised.." Espresso had tears falling down his cheeks at a rapid pace, this was an entirely new pain he had felt. He just slid down the wall, sitting on the ground, trembling. Espresso was questioning why this was happening, why life had decided to ruin everything. "I'm finally happy..please.." Espresso mumbled, begging to god. "Don't take my happiness away.."
Every minute felt like a long hour passing, Espresso was fighting sleep at this point. "I can't..lose him.." Espresso kept mumbling a few incoherent sentences between sobs and pleas.
Espresso lost track of time at this point before the doctors walked back out. Espresso quickly stood up, running to them. "Please tell me he's okay..!" Espresso began crying again. The doctors exchanged glances with each other before looking down. "Sir, I'm sorry..we tried all we could."
Espresso felt his heart sink, his eyes widening as he shoved past them and ran into the room, grabbing Madeleine's hand. "Madeleine..please..!" Espresso started to sob uncontrollably, his eyes were like a water fountain. "You promised..you promised we would go to the festival together!"
Espresso was trembling heavily as he waited for a response, but nothing happened. Espresso's sobs was the only noise in the room besides the flat tone of the heart monitor that showed no sign of a beating heart.
Espresso gripped Madeleine's limp hand. "Liar.." He'd let go, continuing to sob as he stood back up properly, turning his back to the man on the bed. Espresso was about to walk out before he heard loud gasps for air behind him, glancing back. The heart monitor started beeping again. "Madeleine!" Espresso ran back over, grabbing Madeleine's shaking hand. "It was so..cold, Espresso.." Madeleine tried his best to smile. "I was alone..and it was dark.." Madeleine looked into Espresso's eyes. The doctors rushed back in, staring at Madeleine. "He's..he's alive! Hurry, stitch him back up, don't waste any time! Sedate him and get to stitching!" One of the doctors ordered, causing the others to nod and immediately get to work.
Madeleine was sedated and the doctors started to stitch him back up. "He needs blood, get a blood donor here immediately!" The other doctor yelled.
"I can donate blood.." Espresso offered, holding his arm out. "Quickly, get blood from that man. We don't have time to waste!" The doctor didn't even finish before a nurse grabbed a syringe, pulling Espresso's sleeve up and steadying the needle, piercing it through the man's skin. "On it!" The nurse called out, pulling out the syringe and grabbing another one, repeating the process.
Espresso was entirely numb to the pain, his adrenaline was pumping too fast, the heart monitor seemed to be beeping louder and louder in Espresso's head, the overlapping talking and yelling from the doctors and nurses just seemed to tune out.
The nurse handed the two syringes to a doctor, grabbing a bandaid from her uniform and attaching it to the spot where she drew the blood. "He'll be fine, thank you for donating blood. You must care about him a lot.." The nurse smiled at Espresso, trying to distract the man's mind from Madeleine but her attempts didn't work.
"It's..no problem.." Espresso felt like he was about to pass out on the floor, his voice trembling as he blankly watched the doctors stitching his lover. The brown haired man felt like his head was pounding, he couldn't get his thoughts right. All of a sudden, Espresso fainted, falling to the ground. The nurse yelped in surprise, her eyes widening as she watched Espresso, frantically looking back at the doctors then back at the man on the ground before leaning down and grabbing Espresso's arm, struggling to pull the man up. "Shoot.." She'd mumble.
"Hey, could I get help from another nurse over here..?" She'd call out to the group, another person looking at her. "Oh! Oatmeal, what do you need-?" A male nurse rushed over, noticing Espresso on the ground. "..Oh-" He'd nervously laugh, leaning down and picking Espresso up.
"Where do you want me to set him?" The male nurse looked back at Oatmeal. "Over on the chair behind you. Thank you Calendula!" Oatmeal smiled, clapping her hands quietly. This caused Calendula to blush a bit, looking away as he smiled, turning around and setting Espresso on the chair.
"Lemongrass said the surgery should be done soon. Are you alright?" Calendula walked back over to Oatmeal, examining the female. "Oh, I'm fine..thank you-!" Oatmeal gave Calendula a sweet, simple smile. "Good. You've been up all night, you should go get some rest." Calendula placed a hand on Oatmeal's shoulder, frowning.
"Ah..I have to work all night, I'm sorry. The others need my assistance, just like they need yours! So go over there and help them, goofball!" Oatmeal pushed Calendula back over to the group of doctors."Wha-!?" Calendula was cut off by Lemongrass. "Calendula, hand me the scalpel." Lemongrass held out his hand. "Oh- erm..here..-" Calendula nervously handed Lemongrass the scalpel. Lemongrass immediately snatched it and continued working.
After what felt like hours, the surgery was finally done and Madeleine was passed out. The group of doctors all gave each other high-fives and laughed proudly.
"By the way, Calendula, I need you in my office tonight. We have something to discuss." Lemongrass glanced back at Calendula, causing the man to gulp. "Oh, alright.." Calendula nodded, looking away, blushing."Ooh~ What're you two doing in there~?" Sage teased, wrapping an arm around Lemongrass. This earned an annoyed sigh from Lemongrass, pulling away from Sage. "Discussing important matters, not that I'd expect you to know anything. You rarely educate yourself, and even when you do, you don't even exert yourself." Lemongrass walked out of the room.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed..oh well. Not that it matters." Sage shrugged, following after Lemongrass. "Wait up!" Calendula followed after them, Oatmeal ran out as well, trying not to trip and fall, due to the fact she was wearing high heels.
"Will that blonde haired man be okay..?" Oatmeal looked up at Lemongrass, who went quiet for a moment, looking away. "..He doesn't have much time left to live. I'd say he can only last until tomorrow." Lemongrass crossed his arms.
"Ah, I see..thank you." Oatmeal frowned, looking down.
"Madeleine.." Espresso mumbled.
