If Aaron Hotchner had told himself that he never imagined being the one to take your hand in marriage, he would have been the biggest liar in the world.

Ever since the day you started working at the BAU, he was drawn to you. He couldn't help but smile when you did. Your laugh was his favorite thing to hear. One of the things he absolutely adored was when you would stick around late with him at the office because 'You shouldn't be doing all this work this late, Hotch. It's no fun being alone in this cramped little office," you would tell him.

As time went on, that flutter in his chest when you walked into the room only grew stronger. He just wanted you all for his own. He wanted to be the one that would kiss you goodnight and be the first one you saw in the morning. Aaron often found himself daydreaming about his fantasy, picturing the sun hitting your skin just right and giving it a warm glow that would make your features positively radiant. If he dreamed hard enough, he could imagine the way you'd fit right into his arms and curl up against his chest as he whispered sweet nothings into your ear.

Although he felt as though he could happily give everything up to be with you, it wasn't so easy on your end. And it was because of one problem.

Colin.

Colin had been your boyfriend since before you got the job with the BAU team. The two of you started dating in your sophomore year in college and had been inseparable ever since. You loved Collin and the way he made you feel as though you were the most important person in his life.

So that was why when Colin proposed to you on your 5th anniversary at the restaurant you two went to for your first date, you didn't hesitate to say yes. You always dreamed of your wedding and now that Colin was the groom to be, everything felt as though it was falling into place. You had love and happiness and a lifetime supply of it at your disposal. You were ecstatic to get moving on the wedding planning.

Of course, when you came to the BAU office and showed off the ring, the team erupted into cheers and shouts as they congratulated you and asked you questions about the wedding. It was a happy occasion to look forward to and god knows you needed it after some of the cases you all had been through.

Aaron was happy that you got engaged. There's no doubt about that. He couldn't help but feed off of the positive energy that ran through your veins. But was he happy that it was Colin you were engaged to? Absolutely not.

Aaron never had acted upon the way he felt for you because he saw how completely and utterly in love you were with Colin. And the glow that surrounded you everyday was something that he could get used to seeing.

But as horrible as it sounds, a small part of him was hoping that things wouldn't work out. He didn't want you to go through the heartbreak of losing Colin and getting out of that relationship but he just so desperately wanted you to be his.

With that aside, he was at least content with the fact that you were with Colin compared to any other schmuck you could have found yourself in a relationship with. Colin was a stand up guy. Aaron had met him a few times at holiday parties with the team or annual barbecues for the BAU and he could tell that he was just a genuinely nice guy.
