The beep, beep, beep of a nearby monitor pulled you out of your deep slumber. As your eyes fluttered open, the pressure in your head caused you to suck in a breath. "Shit," you grumbled, bringing your hand up to pinch the bridge of your nose.
After the pressure relieved a bit, you opened your eyes fully to see that you were in a room, IV's coming out of your arm. You saw so many cuts and bruises littered along your body, all different shapes and sizes. You weren't sure how you made it to the hospital, but judging by the way that your body ached and skull was practically pounding out of your head, you knew whatever happened must have been serious.
As you sat there catching your bearings, you heard quick steps trailing into your room. A swarm of nurses came into the room holding different charts, checking your vitals, and doing all of the other routine hospital check ins.
"Hi, honey," a short nurse with blonde hair greeted you. She took a glance at the monitors next to your bed before bringing her attention back to you. "I'm Theresa. I'll be your nurse for tonight. How are we feeling, sweetie?"
"I, uh, don't really know," you murmured. You knew that you were in some pain physically but mentally? That was a different story. "I feel sore and my head is pounding. And I really don't know how I even got here," you explained, rubbing your forehead. As your fingers trailed over your forehead, you felt the wad of gauze that rested off to the side of it, inevitably covering up a wound of some kind.
"That's alright, hun. I'll give you some aspirin to help with your headache. We'll take good care of you. Besides, I think Dr. Hotchner will have a fit if his girl didn't have the best treatment in Virginia," Theresa continued as she wrote down some notes into your chart.
You furrowed your brows and looked at the kind nurse. "I'm sorry but who is Dr. Hotchner?"
Theresa's face dropped slightly, keeping a hint of a smile on her face to try to keep you calm and at ease as much as possible. "Dr. Hotchner. Aaron," she clarified, waiting for you to respond in some way. When your face only became more puzzled, she sighed lightly and sent you a small smile, trying to comfort you through all of the confusion. "Your fiancé," she explained as she tucked her pen behind her ear. She took a deep breath and placed her hand on your leg, giving it a gentle squeeze. "We're going to run some tests to see what's going on in that noggin of yours, okay?"
"Okay," you responded quietly. You twiddled your fingers in your lap, seeing the diamond ring that rested upon your ring finger.
"We'll be back later. I'll make sure to tell Aaron that you're up," Theresa said with a smile. Her and the other nurses left the room, leaving you in a state of shock as you stared blankly at the wall in front of you.
You weren't sure what to do. Apparently you were engaged? And you had no idea who the hell the guy even was. On top of that, you still didn't know how the hell you ended up in the hospital to begin with.
