5 weeks.
It had been 5 weeks since Aaron had last seen you smile.
5 weeks since you lost that glow that was constantly around you.
All because he couldn't keep his mouth shut.
He knew what he did was wrong. He shouldn't have admitted that he loved you at your wedding. But he didn't think of the consequences. All he thought of was how there was some chance that things could have worked out for the two of you in time.
A part of him wished he could go back and tell himself to shut up and just accept the fact that you were never going to be his.
But, as much as he wanted to deny it, he was glad that he got to tell you. He felt relieved that you at least knew that he would be willing to do anything and everything for you.
Now, there he was 5 weeks later and he didn't recognize the person that you became.
In those weeks that passed, Colin was never mentioned. By anyone. It was as though he was never in your life, only an enigma of your memories. No one dared to mention the wedding that never happened, the team treading carefully when they would talk about certain topics because they feared that it would only upset you more than you already were.
Unfortunately, being a member of the BAU meant that there was always something going on so you didn't have much time to process everything that had happened.
The team had been particularly busy, going from case to case without much of a break. In a way, it was a blessing in disguise for Aaron because he was able to keep his mind focused on other things other than how he fucked things up.
He tried his hardest to get you to forgive him, doing little things here and there for you throughout the office. He brought in your favorite latte everyday, dropping it on your desk early because he figured that you couldn't bear the thought of being there in your seat when he placed it on your desk. Aaron even found himself taking on extra paperwork so that you wouldn't have to do it. He didn't want you to do more than you had to and he figured that he would be able to give you time to figure things out.
One day, as Aaron was going over the paperwork in his office, his door flung open. His head shot up towards the door as his pen froze on the page in front of him when he saw the way you barged in the room.
You clutched the completed files to your chest, keeping your head down as you walked swiftly over to Aaron's desk with the coffee cup he had left on your desk. You dropped the files on his desk, giving him a tight lipped smile that you had clearly forced upon your face.
"Here's the completed files, Agent Hotchner," you practically spat out. That was the most you had said to him over the past 5 weeks. Your interactions were slim to none and you did everything in your power to avoid him.
Hearing the way that you said his name truly crushed him. All he wanted to do at that moment was give you a hug, run his hands along your back and through your hair, assuring you that everything would be alright. He would tell you that he was sorry for the timing of everything. But he wasn't sorry for telling you in the first place.
