Theo's PoV
It was dark and silent nearing 12am. Mr and Mrs Watson were sleeping, Audrey is in her room sleeping as well, probably. In my own room, full of warm colours that suit my acoustic personality, I sit and wait for a tap on my window. It took a few minutes before she appears with a small smile. She was still bruised but healing. I hop out of bed and quietly open the window and hand her my bag slowly. I then climb out and close the window, leaving a small gap for me to open it again.
Without a word spoken yet, Taylor and I walk away as quietly as possible and further down the street before we were on the main road. "Fuck, we did it!" She exclaimed with laugh. "I guess I did learn something back home. Where to now?" I ask. "There's the woods I wanna walk through. It'll be quiet and away from homes." She hesitantly took my arm and guided me to where the woods was. It was even darker here but fortunately there was a few lampposts on this path. My eyes would also naturally adjust considering part of my DNA belongs to the Night Lurking Race on my planet. Those who thrive in the night. They are what these people call Nocturnal.
"So, how was your day?" She asks. "It was so boring when you started talking about how cool my clothes looked," I say sarcastically. She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Whatever. I just think it's cute how you suit them." I blush lightly and gaze at her as she watched the ground. "Why do you even wanna hang out with me? Especially at this time?" I ask. "Honestly? I don't know. I just like you and... I usually roam the streets at night when I'm not tired and bored to death," she answers.
"So I'm your cure of boredom? That's so sweet of you," I say. She all of a sudden became a bit nervous and stuttery, agreeing with me too. "Enjoying Earth so far?" She asks. "Yeah, minus the shit history and all. Far better than my home planet." We sit on a bench just under a lamppost where the colours of her clothing were much easier to process. A blue puffy jacket, a blue beanie and black jeans. "Wanna talk about it?" She asks reluctantly. I know what she means but I've only known her for a week. "Not really. I've not yet recovered from the trauma," I say.
"You won't recover if you don't talk about it. Just remember to let someone in, alright?" I know it's not been long since I arrived on Earth but I feel like I've clicked with her already. I'm curious to know if she'll be by my side until I die. She shifts closer to her right, closer to me. I take out my phone and see Audrey had texted. "Shit, she heard us leave," I say. "I guess she wasn't sleeping. Her parents won't be mad, will they?" She asks. "Hope not. Audrey said I should be back before five. So we got time to do whatever." I look to her after sliding my phone away, she was really close now. I could feel her warm breath against my cheek.
"Sorry, I just... I was checking if that was a bruise you had... Is it?" She asks. "No, it's my... Camouflage, basically." She leans back and I take out a can of soda and hand her it before taking my own out. That's all I had in my bag, really. Just some school books too. "Does Audrey talk about Jessica?" She asks. "Why? Jealous?" I chuckled. She didn't reply, implying she was serious. "I actually don't talk to Audrey much. But I do remember her getting all smiley and all texting Jess. Even during dinner, she's smiling and all when texting Jess."
She slowly nods and clears her throat, lips thinned before giving a small smile. "You liked Jess, didn't you?" She nods a little and sighs, brushing her hair back a bit. "All well. Shouldn't be my concern anymore." "At least you're moving on. I'm sure you'll find someone." Geez, I sound like Audrey now. She smirks and looks to me, eyeing me up with a hint of embarrassment. "Did you ever play a game called Tag?" She asks. "Yes, I played it often when-" "tag!" She interrupted with a tap before dashing into the woods, leaving her soda behind.
I smile and jump to my feet, perking up my ears and running after her. I leap onto a tree and swing myself up higher so I can now chase her from above. Earth's gravity makes this so much easier as it takes less strength to hold myself up or to transfer from tree to tree. She ran fast but quickly lost her breath and stopped while covering her mouth slightly. I sat in a tree and lurked like a predator stalking it's prey. She leaned her back against a tree, now gasping for a breath. As I waited for her to catch her breath, I move to tree she was against.
Now I'm hanging on the side of the tree above her. She looked left and right as I crept lower down the trunk. "Theo? You there?" She whispered. The moonlight made her clear but my mutation made it clearer. Her heart beat was still fast beating but slowing by the minute. Eventually she moved out a little more into the open and now was my chance to leap. I crawl down and stand tall before tackling her to the ground laughing while she screamed and laughed. She smiled as I sat on top of her, holding her hands above her head with two of mine. "Tag," I say softly. "You were in the trees, weren't you? That's cheating." I just giggle, not answering her question to tease.
The moonlight sparkled against her glossy eyes and smooth cheeks. My other two hands sat on the sides of her waist, and I got curious. My tail swayed left to right in a seductive way. Her species doesn't have tails but I hope she gets the hint that I kinda like her. Her eyes drop to my chest when I lowered myself, hands now grazing her waist and belly. "What are you doing?" She stuttered, still smiling but nervously now. "I... I don't know," I reply. I do know what I'm doing but I doubt she'd be comfortable with it. Should I stop? Maybe it's best if I did.
"Can we keep this to ourselves, no telling Audrey?" She asks. "Tell her what?" I ask in return. She pulls her knees up which pushed me closer to her but then she moved her arms up so fast that I almost smacked my face on hers. But her lips felt... Nothing like I've ever felt before. They were different. They were softer, tasted of cherry soda. I wrap my tail around one of her legs and leaned in to make it last a little longer. My ears perk up when hearing a few clicks to my right and that had me a little concerned. So I pulled back and covered her mouth, looking far to my right.
Whatever it was clicked again, allowing me to locate it's origin point deep in the woods. Night lurkers also had the ability to enhance their vision, see a large distance away if they stare long enough. What I saw had me jaw dropped and shit scared. A Night Lurker himself with darker skin, staring dead in my eyes. "Oh shit," I say, breathlessly. I jump to my feet and yank Taylor off the ground and drag her away as fast as possible. "What is it?! What did you see?!" She exclaimed. "Shut up and run!" I demand. Just as we reach one of the lampposts, he lands in front of us with heavy feat and kicks myself and Taylor against a fallen tree.
She yelped in pain, triggering me to the point where I'd tackle him and beat him. However, he was taller, more muscular, and had tougher skin than a regular. He threw me off but I prevent myself from falling. He jumped to his feet and immediately whipped out his large bow and arrow, just about to fire at my chest but held back, eyes widened. "Theo," he says quietly. I raise a brow, positioning myself to protect Taylor. "Yeah, that's me... Why are you here? To kill me? To collect my only belongings? To exterminate every non-religious and homosexual human with a few physical differences?"
"Theo, it's been forty cycles since the extermination. Your lovers death and your exile changed our society!" He lowers his bow, now looking just as confused as I am. "Forty cycles? That's grollin shit! I've been here for just over a month, how the fuck has it been forty Cycles?!" I exclaim. "Distance, Theo! Seventeen hundred light-cycles away! You still look the same... Amazing. How do you feel?" He asks. "Like shit. My girlfriend is dead because of you and I was exiled!" He sighs and looks to my right where Taylor was. "From what I saw, it looks like you've moved on," he says when putting is bow back.
I'm only just realizing she doesn't understand a word we're saying right now. She sat there freaked out and shitting bricks. "We only started talking about a week ago... Hey- you didn't answer my question." I look to him and his arms were folded, eyes to the ground. "I went on a search mission. Landed in the trees. I was told to find you if you were still alive and let you know that what happened to you changed history. More of our species is open and support mixed races." I nod slowly, a little thankful that things have changed but I won't be returning home. "Her name's Taylor... What's your name?" I ask. "Tar'in Gornic... I'm your... Cousins son," he answered. Lilith had a son?!
