Audrey's Pov
I enter the plain white room with the mirrored window opposite the door and a long table in the middle. Sat at one end was Theo crying quietly with her hands chained to the table. The MIB found her last night and wanted to know why she's here on earth. They got no answer from her even after giving her the proper medical attention and clothes that fit and suit her. They even gave her tissues to blow her small nose. She goes to give me a hug but couldn't. I'm pleased knowing she trusts me enough to give me physical contact.
I give her an awkward hug which seemed to have calmed her a little. Then I sit in front of her and sigh. "They want me to ask you why you're here. They only want to help you," I say softly. "You promise not to tell them? They won't believe me if I tell them." I'm honestly amazed how oblivious she is to the room behind the mirror. I guess she's so harmless that she had no reason to see the Interrogation room on her world. "Sure." She begins to fiddle with the chains of her cuffs. "I was exiled by my own people because I sinned against our Goddess... Not only am I a mutant but... I was one of the few who preferred the same sex."
I lift my brows with this shocking new information. Her species had a Goddess. Preferring the same sex is a sin. Being a mutant is exile worthy. What a cruel planet. "Shit, that must've sucked. So, you were exiled for being homosexual?" She was silent for a moment or two as her eyes stuck to her hands. I would like to hear the full story and so would the the MIB. I suppose I'll need to give something to get the full story. So I pull out the photo of her and her friend from my pocket.
"Theo, right?" I ask. "How did you know?" She asks, lifting her head to me. I slide the photo across allowing her to take hold of it. "You kept this? I thought I lost it during my crash... Thank you." I nod and wave it off. "The other girl was my girlfriend. She was so sweet. Always protected me from whatever douche tried hurting me. She'd even help me with things I couldn't do alone and she always knew how to comfort me." She had a small smile on her lips but it soon faded. "What happened to her?" I ask, leaning in slightly.
"People found out... On my planet, us homosexuals are executed. Our fake religion intends on ridding evil to please Goddess Armitice. So, I was forced to watch them beat her to death. But because I was a freak of nature caused by radiation, they exiled me. Said I didn't deserve to be cleansed on world. They didn't want my blood on their hands." I nod reluctantly and look to the mirror. I was a little breathless. Hurt knowing how. Cruel her home world was. Now she's here alone and alienated in a place that can only make her feel unwanted.
A MIB member enters and clears his throat. I nod and stand up. "Will she be let go soon? She can stay with my family," I say. "We'll see," he says quietly. I gave one comforting smile to Theo then leave hoping she'll not freak out. I wasn't sure if she was able to lie during the interrogation. She told me not to tell them even though they recorded the whole thing. They'd probably search her planets history to see if she really was exiled for her sins. Now I'm curious to know what her species name is and how her body works. It would be cool if she could change colour.
Time passed where I sat in my room worrying about this new possible friend of mine until mom called me downstairs. When I walk into the living room, the alien stood there holding her tail and hugging herself. "She moved straight to the corner as soon as she came in. Try make her feel at home. I'll try be home for dinner." "What about dad?" I ask. Unfortunately mom had left before I could finish my question. I look to Theo with a smile only to get an awkward toothless one back. Her tail was about a meter and a half long. Her arms were muscular but slim.
"You hungry?" I ask. She nods hesitantly and so I motion her into the kitchen with me. "What does your species eat? Plant life? Animal life? Both?" "Anything edible. Hot or cold." I make her a sandwich and give her a glass of water and I'm honestly not sure if I'm scaring her or not. Maybe she's a slow eater. "So what's your species name?" I ask. "Kalpazien. But my species dekalpaziened me so... What about you?" She asks quietly. "My species is Human. And don't worry, most of the population is LGBT friendly." She gives a strange look, as if she didn't hear me or was wanting me to go on.
"What?" I question. "What's LGBT?" I sigh and shrug my shoulders. How does one answer this to an alien? "It's a large community of people who have their own sexualities and genders and pronouns. So you'd be in that community." She nods then looks out the kitchen window. "Why did you save me? Why not let me die?" "It would've been murder, of course. Plus.... I'd like a little company in the house again. Someone to talk to." She returns her gaze to mine and there was silence for what seemed like an hour. Her eyes are amazing with its blue purple mix and some pink within it too. They were large like some Japanese cartoon girl eyes but not too large.
"Was there someone else other than your parents?" She asks suddenly. Disturbing the almost perfect silence. "My sister but she left. That's all I'll say for now." She nodded as she looked outside again and I could tell she was wanting to go outside. "Never seen trees or grass before?" I say with a bit of laughter. "Grass and trees where white or red on my planet." Maybe I'll show her outside when it's darker. She looks into the dining room, eyes on the piano before moving to sit at it. "We had something like this too. Keys were inverted, though," she says before beginning to learn the piano. I noticed her tail swinging about joyfully as she progressed through a piece of sheet music.
There was a few mistakes, as expected, but the piece was played beautifully. She looked to me when finished, smiling awkwardly as she hid her deep red cheeks. "We also had more keys on the keyboard instrument." That smile gave me butterflies. I'm sure it give anyone Butterflies, really. "So what else can you do?" I ask. "You'll find out sooner or later." I head upstairs after taking her hand, bringing her to my room and showing her around. Her tail swung with no pattern, like a cat when they're curious or playful as she looked at everything in the room. Her gaze meets mine for a moment before turning to my bed.
"You're the first friend I've brought in here. So, I apologize for the mess," I say quietly. The embarrassment was growing the more she looked around. "My room was always like this. I never found the time to properly clean it up. This room is also cozy." She plotted herself on the end of my bed. "You wanna sleep in here tonight? I got plenty of space." She nods hesitantly as I sat beside her. Theo then turns to face me and wraps her arms tight around my waist. "Name's Audrey, in case you were wondering," I chuckle quietly. "Thank you, Audrey." Then there was silence and her tail wrapped around my waist too. It felt weird, I'll admit, but it was nice.
Hours passed, mom had finally came home late when Theo and I were chilling out in the back yard with a few sodas. "You two are getting along well. What did I miss?" She asks. "Nothing much. I gave her a tour of the house and showed her a few things. Miss McGregor's history lessons proved useful after all." "That's nice of you, Audrey. Hope you two had fun. What would she like for dinner?" I look to Theo who was more interested in a hedgehog which was just walking across the garden. "I'm sure she'll try eat anything." Mom nods and heads back in leaving me with this alien.
She shivers a little from a sudden breeze. I'm not sure what her optimal body temperature is so to stay on the safe side, I wrap my jacket around her. She was a bit stubborn but she's still scared. She's gotta be. "Do you feel any better about all this?" I ask. "I don't know," she replied quietly. Theo rests her head on my shoulder when I got a little closer. I'm assuming she is comfortable with me now and has some trust in me. I'm glad, though. It just means she'll have the chance to see life is still worth living for now.
