Audrey's PoV
I sit in class where Miss McGregor teaches us some basic facts about the second world war. I, like everyone else in this school, question how she's still single with the body and heart she has. The nicest teacher in the school. She has long dark brown hair, clear skin and amazing green eyes. She has the body of a seductive model. Like the typical hot teacher every jock wants in the cliché American movies. She has these glasses she uses for reading that makes her looking like a librarian with her hair in a bun. I can't believe the head teacher allowed her to teach wearing a short tight black skirt and neatly pressed white shirt.
Miss McGregor already has roomers spreading but she never leaves the classroom. Last year, she was accused of seducing one of the students and that student just so happened to fail several tests beforehand. There was a court case because she was blamed for the student failing. She was given a restraining order and lost her job for three months for doing fuck all. Funny, I haven't seen that kid since then. I look around my class to see Taylor sitting beside Jessica, babbling on about whatever. She was being very quiet, whispering actually. Jessica was gazing at me but she broke away when our eyes met.
"Audrey, please pay attention," Teach says. "Sure, Miss," I reply. I could hear Taylor giggle in the background, causing the teacher to sigh in annoyance. "What's so funny, Taylor?" "Oh, you know. This dork's book. It's got rainbows and shit in it," she replied. She pointed to George who was reddening by the second as he lowered his head. "I mean, what is he? A fag who sleeps in rainbows every night?" Taylor asked rhetorically. I jump to my feet as others in the class begin to chuckle. "I'm sorry, did you just call him a fag?" I ask in a low voice.
"Of course you'd pay attention to it, y' dyke." I send a solid dented knuckle to her jaw. She yelped and flew off her chair so I go round and pick her up by her collar and send another punch and then another. "Audrey Watson! Stop it this instant!" Teach yelled, for the first time too but it didn't scare me. I went on and on, demanding she referred to homosexuals by their correct term. Then, all of a sudden, everything went black.
Later that afternoon, Taylor and I sat in chairs in the class with Miss McGregor sitting behind her desk frustrated and stressed out, looking like she's about to breakdown. My mom sat on my left and on her left was Mr Anderson. Rich in all it's hideous glory. I had an icepack against my right eye, bruised and bloodshot. I still don't know who done it. Probably Teach with a chalk block or something. "So, what's best for the two them," Mom asks. "Suspended for a few days. Detention when they come back. If Taylor wishes to, she can press charges." I look to Taylor, black and blue, half conscious, plastered up with a broken arm hanging in a red flannel.
She shakes her head and waves her hand weakly. "You should apologise, Audrey," Mom said. "Apologise?! Not until this whore takes back what she said to me and George!" "Who's George?" Mom asks. "Odd. You and him never talk after class or even before it," Miss McGregor states. I just sit in silence now. "So, if that's settled, we can go?" Mr Anderson asks, earning a nod as Miss McGregor lowered her head. The Anderson's leave and so do I. Mom told me to head on home while she does her usual girl talk while she's on a long enough break.
Stood outside by her truck waiting for me was the cowgirl in all her glory, standing with George too. I've never seen them two with eachother before. As I got closer, my chest got lighter and my stomach started doing summersaults or something. I was nervous and embarrassed with this black eye. "Hey," I say quietly. "Hi," Jess replied. "Never knew you and George hung out?" "Of course we do. We date." Hearing it made my stomach turn and I'm sure my face did too. A moment of silence later, Jess started laughing. "I'm joking, Audrey. I wouldn't do that to you." My cheeks are warmer than my car engine. I'm betting on it.
