Rue's POV

THERE WAS ANOTHER reason I didn't wanna come to this charity ball thing. I look around the room to see all the couples dancing, and enjoying each other's company.

Me and Aniyah sit alone at the table, while Diego was at the bar with this pretty girl from another Mafia. She had blonde hair, blue eyes, and she was wearing a beautiful baby blue, flowy dress. They were laughing and smiling, it almost made me want to tear up.

Almost.

Kaylee and, surprisingly Alex, were waltzing around the room with all the other couples. They were laughing at how they stepped on each other's toes. I guess those 3 hours of ball room dancing we took 3 times a week, didn't pay off, did they?

I feel like I'm about to die. And honestly, I quite literally want to, right now.

"You had the right idea when you said you wanted to stay home," I hear Aniyah say, before she groans in boredom.

"Trust me, I know." I whisper to myself, and lean into my seat more.

Earlier tonight, I saw a few familiar faces. And I'm positive they were from our Mafia. And mostly because, Aniyah and Nadine had a few words about it. AKA, they almost started fighting in front of a huge crowd.

"I didn't get you that pretty dress, just so you could sit here and mope."
I look up to see Nadine, his hands in his pockets, and a smirk threatening to show. "What's wrong, Tesoro?" His voice is calm and quiet.

"Nothing," I say, "just not in the mood, I guess."

My smile slowly fades as I see a girl, looking over at us. Anger written in her face. She had brunette hair, tan-ish skin, and from what I can see, brown eyes?

"I've seen her before," I slightly motion over to her, "who is she?" I ask Nadine, still looking at her.

Nadine turns his head to see where I'm looking, he turns back to me and dismisses it with his hand, "Don't worry about it, I'll tell you later." He says, giving me a soft smile."But for now.." He fixes his tie a bit and walks a few steps closer to me, "Rue, will give me this dance?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.

I feel an unknown emotion build inside me. When he helped me get ready, I thought that by saying those words, he would get the memo to either ditch me, or prove himself that he can be "worthy" of me. He looks at me, waiting for an answer.

"This doesn't mean I forgive you." I say as I gently put my hand in his.

"I knew it wouldn't be that easy," He leads me to the middle of the room, where everyone else is waltzing to the music.

🎵 PLAY THE SONG NOW 🎵

A new song begins to play, and everyone changes the rhythm of their dancing, to a soft, sensual move.

Nadine sets one hand on my waist, while the other holds mine. I put my other hand on his shoulder while he holds me in place for a second.

And before I know it, we're drifting through the other couples. It feels like my mind isn't on earth, if that makes sense?

I can't stand the tension between us, so let me try to make conversation."What do you think this song is about?" I ask. I've always wanted to learn French, isn't that the language of love? I can't remember.

"It's basically just a love song." Nadine says, his smile fades a bit, but he quickly puts it back on.

"You know French?" This man is perfect. Well- almost. He knows Italian, Spanish, Russian, and French? I'm convinced he's not from earth. I'm thinking Mars, or maybe a place that exists only in my dreams.

"Oui chérie" His Italian accent, slightly cuts into his words, but it still sounds beautiful. "Tesoro," His eye change from crystal blue, to a color I can't recognize. He's serious now.

"Sí?" I ask. I feel his grip on my waist become a bit tighter, he's cautious not to hurt me though.

"Je voulais juste te dire à quel point tu es belle ce soir." He softly smiles. I'm hoping he said something nice. Fingers crossed. "Et je suis probablement une chatte pour te dire dans une langue que tu ne peux pas comprendre" He laughs, I stand there confused at what he just said, but still, I keep a smile on my face.

"What did you say?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. He laughs and shakes his head.

"It's not important, Tesoro," He smiles, and soon after, we both start softly laughing, for what? I don't know why, we just do.

I look over his shoulder, thanks to these high heels, I'm able to see over his shoulder, well that is if I stand on my tippy toes, but it's better than nothing.
The girl with dirty blonde locks, who Nadine said was Ivan's daughter, stares back at me and Nadine.

Her features are soft, light pink blush compliment her cheeks. The rest of her face is makeup-less. And that makes me wonder if her blush is real or not. She's wearing a cream colored dress. The dress is made of tule and there are fake flower sown into the bottom.

Kind if wishing I looked like her right now.

Shut up Rue, you look good, be thankful your here.

Now isn't the time- oh my god, I cannot be talking to myself. Shh. Just forget I ever said anything.

"What are you looking at?" Nadine asks.

I turn my attention back to him and give a forced smile, "It's nothing." I softly say.

I feel my hands become sweaty as he leans in. I feel his breath his warm breath hits my cheek, and right as I'm about to lean in to meet his lips-even though, I know I should still be mad at him- Nadine's words take over my ear.

"You don't have to lie to me, Tesoro," Nadine smirks, and my cheeks immediately heat up. He laughs, knowing he caused it. His laughter fades and it goes back to being quiet.

I look up at him to see him staring down at me. He's not smirking or laughing anymore. He has an emotionless look, all except for his eyes. Which is surprising, because they're usually staring daggers at me.

His hand releases mine, and gently brushes against my face. I feel my smile fade, but not in a bad way. It's because my face hurts from keeping up this act.

His hand that was on my waist, reaches up and takes my hand off his shoulder, so that now he's holding it. He lifts it up, and before I know what he's doing, I feel myself twirl around, kind of like the ones you see in the movie, where the girl and guy are in love, and they have this beautiful dance, and the guy just twirls the girl around and sings to her and what not.

Am I thinking of 'Beauty and the Beast'? I must be. Or maybe every other Disney movie you could think of.

I look down and see that my dress was moving beautifully as Nadine spun me.

He stops spinning me so that we're facing each other, "I think it's time for us to go, don't you think?"

I don't know what to think.
