CORAL

“How do we get to Olympus now?” Lilianah asked as we stepped out of the casino, with the Omnifelveltine in my arms.
“Welp, we’ve used up all the money that we had,” Ciera said.
“Now that’s worrisome” I said.
Suddenly, out of nowhere a golden chariot materialised in front of us, and the person who was riding the chariot was Hermes.
“Lord Hermes” I said and we bowed in front of him.
“Hey kids, now you don’t have to be that formal with me. I was nearby and I sensed you guys were having some trouble getting back to Olympus, well guess what? That’s exactly where I’m headed to, hop on i’ll give you a free ride” Hermes said smiling at us warmly.
“Thank you so much Lord Hermes,” Ciera said.
“It’s no big deal, this is the least i can do to help our future heroes and who knows your father Poseidon might reward me for helping his daughter” he winked at me.
The ride to Olympus was silent, but not awkward, perhaps Hermes had guessed we were tired considering we had been inside the Casino all night and it was almost dawn so he asked us to rest and assured us that the chariot ride was safe. The three of us curled up against each other and fell into a deep slumber. We awoke four hours after, and the Sun was already out. I checked my watch and it was just after seven.

“We’re here” Hermes said as he stopped his chariot in front of the big gate of the Empire State Building.
“Well i’ll get going now, you guys should use the elevator, I’ll meet y’all upstairs” he waved at us.

“We need to go to the 600th floor please” I told the guy sitting at the reception.
“There’s no such floor” he said and muttered to himself “kids these days are delusional.”
I was too not ready for his bullshit early in the morning after a very exhausting night so I took out two golden drachmas from my pocket and placed them on the table.
“Now is there a 600th floor?” I asked slightly annoyed.
He looked up at me through his glasses, “yes there is.”
I looked at him and muttered to myself but loud enough for him to hear “gods receptionists these days, won’t do a single work without bribery” which made Ciera and Lilianah snicker, they knew I get irritated very fast when I haven’t had a good night’s sleep, so they always try to avoid conversations with me during such times. We hopped into the elevator and the 600th floor button became visible to us, I pressed it and we waited. I wouldn’t say I wasn't nervous because I was literally shaking with anxiety, but I tried to control my breathing. The Omnifelveltine was currently inside my bag with its head sticking out of it, because I had thought carrying it with my arms would be hectic.

After about ten minutes we reached the 600th floor. We stopped out of the elevator and the big golden door opened itself for us. Olympus was beautiful, since it was my first time in Olympus i was completely mesmerized by it. The wood nymphs smiling at us as we passed by, the nine muses were playing their music to dryads, naiads and satyrs, it was beautiful. Then came the big wooden doors of the throne room, I thought knocking would be a good idea but as i was about to knock the doors opened inviting us in, as we walked through those doors we saw the thrones all arranged in an inverted U, a big fire crackled in the enormous central hearth and a girl of about 14 years of age was tending to it, Hestia, I thought and bowed, she looked at me and smiled but then looked back as if asking me to bow in front of Zeus before anyone else. I stopped in front of Zeus’ throne and bowed before i looked up at him, he was huge, his black beard was well trimmed, which matched his suit, his throne on the other hand was was my father Poseidon, he was wearing his same old bermuda shorts and his hawaiian t-shirt, he looked like he had just come back from a nice vacation in the Bahamas as he softly smiled at me. The three of us then proceeded to bow in front of the other gods, there weren’t many, the throne room was empty, except Athena, Hermes, Aphrodite and Hestia at the hearth. Aphrodite looked at Lilianah and smiled and I straight up wanted to ask her what had she told Lilianah in the dream, but I kept my mouth shut. Athena had a slight frown on her face, like she always did when looking at a child of Poseidon, as if we were distasteful creatures but she nodded as if to acknowledge our respect and then came Hermes, who gave us a knowing smile as we bowed in front of him.

“This one’s better than your other kid, at least she knows her manners” Zeus told Poseidon and he chuckled.
“Coral?” Poseidon called me. It felt strange to hear my name from his mouth considering the fact that I had thought he didn’t even know I existed.

“Give it to us” he said and I understood what he was talking about so i took it out of my bag and walked up to Zeus to hand it to him. Zeus held the little creature in his hands, and walked down from his throne in his human form towards the hearth, said a silent enchantment and threw it in the fire. It hurt to see it be sacrificed like that, after all we had gone through so much just to save it, honestly it felt as if all our hard work had gone to waste, but I couldn't do anything because I knew this would happen.

Zeus walked back to his throne and Poesidon asked me what had happened, so I laid out the whole situation before them. Lilianah and Ciera backed me up on all the little things that I missed. The gods stayed silent for a while and i can swear that i saw a tinge of fear in Zeus’ eyes for a split second.

“What do we do now father?” Athena asked Zeus.
“We can’t really do much except see who the eight will be, if this is going to be something like the second prophecy, we’ll just have to wait” Zeus said and i remembered Chiron had said the same thing, Zeus had kind of humbled up and it was weird to see him not be egoistic, but i guess gods change too huh.
“Very well, demigods, now you may go back to your camp. Hermes give them a ride” Zeus said.

We bowed in front of them once again before we left. As we were getting out of Olympus Poseidon called me
“I’m proud of you, Coral” he said and then went back, which made me tear up and I walked out of Olympus happily, because hearing words of praise from a father who’s a god means much more than you think it does.
