Chapter Five- Short Dresses and Drunk Perverts
We arrived at Harlow an hour after it opened. Marion and Samuel, the bouncers at the entrance opened the door for us. They whistled to tease me as they saw how I looked. Everyone in the club has never seen me wearing something this indecent. Even the Harlow uniform, a black asymmetrical dress with sparkly silver stripes was modest.
Kyla Gracie-forced me to put on her black fitted dress that stopped mid-thigh. The thin laced sleeves were not as helpful in covering up my shoulders. Kyla also let me wear a pair of wedge heels. She had the decency to let me pick the shoes I wanted. I couldn't stand wearing pumps or stilettos. Wedges were the least painful choice.
I stared at myself in our full-length mirror after I got dressed. When did Kyla buy all these things? The short dress and the high heels made my short legs look longer. But even with heels, my three companions still towered me. That's what you get for being five foot two, midget!
I rolled my eyes at Marion and Samuel and threw a punch in the air as we came in. Lisa, generously took care of our entrance to show her appreciation for coming with her. We didn't argue. She was going to party with us or on her own anyway.
Once were in, I considered myself as the most decent girl inside. If I insisted on wearing the shirt and jeans, I'd look like an idiot but seriously? Every girl inside was wearing scraps of cloth they call a dress as if I wasn't exaggerating and there was an actual shortage of fabric in the Philippines. I never thought Manic Monday looked like this, a pool of half-naked women. I know, I should be used to scenes like this but without the guys, these girls were just so... visible.
Kyla opted for a blue fitted halter dress and platform heels. Ali borrowed a white crop top and black circle skirt from Lisa who was the most daring of all. She wore a red body hugging dress with the lowest neck line I've ever seen. It was an inch above her belly button. What the hell, right?
I refused the free cocktail handed to me as we entered. Even if I was working in the club, I'm a total lightweight. I can only take a bottle of beer. A couple of shots would make me look like a tomato. Jacob, one of the waiters winked at me as he found as a table for us at the corner of the club. Ali and I decided to go people watching despite the darkness. I've never done it before because I was busy serving drinks. It was quite fun. We laughed about grinding butts, falling dresses and stumbling heels. I was aware it was mean to laugh at people but what was more amusing was how these teenagers were trying to act like adults. They looked so young and I recognize some faces from campus. I'm sure, they only want to have fun but with whose money?
I've never been the judgy type of person but I can't help but get irritated that the money that some of these students waste on alcohol and cigarette was from a hardworking parent. I have a point right? If you earned the money yourself then by all means, spend it in a club. If you don't then think about the one who did. Oh god. I take it back people watching is not fun.
Yeah. Yeah. I'm a boring person. Trust me, I know.
I went to the ladies room on my own. Ali had to stay in our table because Lisa and Kyla were busy ruling the dance floor. I tied my hair in a bun because I knew how bad it'd smell in the morning with all the smoke in the club. Before I went back to our table, I stopped by the bar where Ma'am Hailey and Sir Dylan were making drinks.
"You look nice." Ma'am Hailey complimented as she mixed liquor.
"Couldn't stay out of the club, could you?" Sir Dylan teased.
"I'm baby-sitting." I pointed to my friends who were now dancing around the pole. They both mouthed an 'Oh'. They're a lovely couple.
"Would you like a drink?" I shook my head at Ma'am Hailey's offer. No alcohol for me tonight. I turned and leaned my back on the bar.
