Part 21 ~ Nightmare

A few hours later

It was around 2 am and Peter was having a nightmare. He's been dreaming about being lost and Steve. In his dream he saw Steve telling him things like:

" You're nothing"
"We don't need you"
"Don't you babble shit here"
"Tell me"
"You're safe here"

And then he slapped him in the face. That's when he woke up in cold sweat, breathing very fast. He still thought he's in the dream so he didn't calm down, his heart was racing pretty fast. He got one of his pillows and he hugged it very tightly. He started rocking back and forth, mumbling things like:

Peter: I'm nothing, he hates me, it's not safe, I can't talk.

That's when Friday decided to tell Bucky that he had a nightmare. Bucky hurried there and he slowly opened the door.

Bucky: Peter?

He saw him hugging a pillow and rocking back and forth while crying.

Bucky: Hey hey. Peter, you're okay. Okay?
Peter: I'm not safe, they don't need me.
Bucky: Peter? Look at me, look at me.

After a few seconds, Peter finally looked at him. Bucky got his attention and he stopped mumbling.

Bucky: Listen to me, Pete. Listen. You're wanted, and you're enough. You-are-safe. You are. Please believe me.

He started calming down a little, his crying wasn't that bad and he wasn't breathing that fast.

Bucky: It's okay kid. You're okay.
*he stroked his back*
Bucky: You can let go. Give me that pillow.

Peter looked up to him when he calmed down. Bucky saw that he's there and he's better.

Bucky: What happened?
Peter: Nightmare.
Bucky: Steve?
*he asked sadly*
*Peter nod*
Bucky: Okay. Thank you for telling it and talking to me.

They sat in silence for a minute when Peter asked shyly.

Peter: C-can you sleep here?
Bucky: I'd love to.
*he smiled*

He brought his stuff to his room and he put it on the floor. He slept on the floor, next to Peter. Fortunately, Peter didn't have more nightmares on that night, but he definitely felt safer next to Bucky.

In the morning

Pepper wanted to make some surprise, some breakfast to Peter so she looked into his room after she woke up. She saw his peaceful face and Bucky sleeping next to him. She smiled before she closed the door.

When she was done with breakfast, pretty much of the team was downstairs. They saw Bucky and Peter come down at the same time. They didn't really think it's something but when Pepper asked Bucky how was sleeping together they got surprised.

Steve: You said- sleeping together?
Pepper: Yeah, I saw them sleeping together in the morning.
Bucky: Yes we actually slept together.
Peter: I-I asked him to.

He said because he thought he'll get Bucky uncomfortable with that.

Bucky: It's okay Pete. It's not a shame. But yes he asked and I agreed. He had a nightmare before so I understood it.
Pepper: Oh poor kid.

She put the breakfast in front of Peter and he finally ate it.
