(It will be in Zorina's POV until otherwise indicated)
Zorina's POV:
I saunter into the busy classroom, not knowing what to expect when I look at the two seats in the back comer of the room. Conrad's here today. Thank God. I hope he is doing okay. When I walk closer to him I notice he is staring out the window, the risimg sun glaring on his perfect features, allowing them to stand out more. His countenance shifts from, what looked to be anger, to complete melancholy, as I look at him. I pull out my chair to sit down, Asha is here too, she said hello and waved. The sunlight shining trough the window behind her, casting a shadow of her slim bodice on the floor below."Hey Ahsa. Why were you not here yesterday?"I ask with my eyebrow raised.
She answered nonchalantly as if it was no big deal she missed school every Monday for 3 weeks, "It's because I didn't feel it yesterday." Asha shrugs off the issue I'm pointing out to her. Her body contorts from having to twist her body in order for her to be able to face me.
I shake my head at her in complete disagreement at her lack of caring for school, and then turned my head a little to gaze at Conrad. He's staring out the widow like there is someone standing out there. The way he is gawking it makes me wonder what is going on in his head. I shrugs it off and I shift my gaze to the front of the room, Mr. Lawrence calling out for everyone to get in their seats. He is taking attendance rather slow today, I wonder why?
Mr. Lawrence looks to the back of the room directly at me, "Zorina Frye, Conrad Hall, please join me in the hall." His voice is monotone, almost like he is being careful not to show any emotion. Conrad and I look at each other for a second before getting out of our seats, the chairs pushing behind us simultaneously. The scratching noise of the chairs sliding against the white and blue lanolium foor, turning everyone's attention to us, in the back of the room. We walk to the exit, walking right beside each other, our shoulders almost touching.
The muscular teacher, held the door for us, his white and gray striped dress shirt tugging at his biceps, being polite as he is, we walk through the doorway yhe same way we walked toward it. We walk down the hall a little bit until, we were about five feet away from the room we just came from.
The teacher smiles at us as we stood side by side, against a white wall with the man in front of us, staring like we were some kind of animal at the zoo.
"You kids leave school right now and go to New York. I will deal with the school, but you guys should go...now." He smiles warmly at us, Conrad and I look at each other confused. Mr. Lawrence notices our bewilderment, assuring us that he is on our side and he wants nothing, but the gratification of being able to help us. "You guys mean the world to me, I don't want to get you hurt, but you have to go to New York, now before it's too late." His expression shifts quickly from joy to grief.
"Mr. Lawre-" I was cut off by the teacher.
"Call me Harper." he plastered a fake smile across his face as ours become stunned, me more than Conrad, seeing as I was the one who knew the man more than he does.
My eyes stay glued to the familiar man in front of me, "How...how are...what are..." I can't make sense of any words, putting a sentence together right now is like trying to speak a foreign language without knowing any anything. Everything blurred together, it's like I am reliving the past, blue and red lights flashing before my eyes, burning the horrible dream into my head. I can't believe I've been taught by the man who saved my friends life.
He looks at me with grief still warping his countenance. "Don't worry about anything, I'll explain later. Zori, do you still have my number?" The tall brown haired man questions, tilting his head to a 40 degree angle. I nod, my mouth still wide open from surprise. "Take that with you and call me if you need anything." Harper pushed his hand into his black dress pant pocket, pulling out some money. It is about $50 in cash, wrinkled up in a green ball laying in his palm. "This is all I have for now, use it wisely and you will get far."
Conrad and I nod saying we understand. I move my head side to side looking down the long, empty hallway trying to see if anyone saw this strange money exchange between teacher and student.
"Go!" Harper yells, echoing in the long stark hall we stand in, pushing us away, our balance is shifted got shoved away. We continue down the hall at a steady speed, a mix between running and speed walking, to our locker grabbing our stuff and bolt out of the school as fast as we can.
Harper continues to stand in his spot a couple seconds more, smiling about his good work. "Those two don't realize it yet, but they have a bond nobody else could ever dream to have." A smile spread from ear to ear as he watched the two run out of the school and away from him...once again.
