I open the door to my house, expecting to see my mother at the entry way smiling and crying, but there was nothing. Silence. Silence filled the cold air of my house. "Mom?" I called through the house multiple times, wandering around the downstairs, when I heard nothing I moved on to the upstairs.

I climbed 20 stairs to the second floor, heart racing, fingers shaking nervously like I know something is wrong. I make it into my mother's room, down the hall and the second door on the left. I knock softly, then a little louder, calling out her name between knocks. Nothing. Absolute silence.

I open the door slow, peeking through the small crack I made, looking for my mother. She is laying peacefully on her bed, but something is different about her, her chest isn't falling and rising like normal, staggered at best.

"Mom!!" I slam the door open, banging against the wall behind it, running to my mother's side checking her breathing, but there was nothing. "Oh god! What do I do!?" I grab my phone and call Conrad, hoping he will pick up.

The phone rang three times and Conrad's voice rang through. "Hello?"

I sob before answering. "Connie you have to help me!" I can barely speak with heavy sobs coming through and tears falling down.

"What's wrong? What's going on?"

"Please help me!!!!" I yelled into the phone.

Conrad yelled back trying to calm me down, which helped. "You need to calm down and tell me what is going on or I can't help you!"

I inhale a large breath then exhale, my voice slightly more calm. "My mom, she isn't breathing. What do I do?" My hand automatically cups my mouth when I begin to sob again.

"First, call the ambulance and give them your information. Next you need to try and do CPR it might bring her back, but it also might not. Last you need to make sure you stay with her, she will need someone to wake up to that she cares about." His voice is so calm like he has been through this before. "My mom went through this with me multiple times so I know how it works. Please stay calm ok? Not only will it stress you out, but it will also stress out the one unconscious." Sirens and cars can be heard through the phone, passing cars and laughing people passing by as well.

"Connie, where are you? I thought you went home?" I controlled my sobs enough to speak.

"No where just do I what said okay?" I nod at his demand even though I know he can't see me.

I pick up the landline and call the ambulance, they estimated about five minutes.

I begin pushing down on my mother's chest, Conrad telling me everything I need to do. I blow air into my mother's mouth then begin to push violently on her chest once again. I hear a door open in the phone, but think nothing of it as I continue to push down on my mother. "I hear the ambulance, should I stop and go downstairs?" I put the phone on speaker because it was getting difficult to hold onto.

"No you stay there and concentrate on what you're doing." I hear an echo come from downstairs, my pushing pauses. "Connie?"

"Yeah?" His voice echoes from down the stairs, I leave my mom on her blue bed walking down to where I heard the echo. A boy standing right at the bottom of the stairs by the door startles me.

"Why are you here, Connie?"

"What are you doing!? What about your mom!?" He yelled, hanging up the phone.

My eyes glass over, tears forming again, my mind going blank, I walk over to Conrad and wrap my arms tight around his body desperately needing a hug I take advantage of him being here. "I'm so scared..." My voice muffled by his black tee.

"I know, but you need to be strong for your mom." Sirens grew louder as they pull up beside the house, bursting through the door and frantically asking where my mom is. I told them the location of her room and three men went jumping up the stairs three at a time. "She will be okay."

My body feels weak, my legs are shaking in rhythm with my hands, my eyes grow heavy and suddenly a blanket of blackness over takes me. Nothing hurts, nothing smells, I hear nothing but silence. Complete and utter darkness surrounds my shaking body. I feel a pair of arms carrying me inside somewhere, those arms are so familiar yet they seem so far away.

Where am I?

What am I doing?

Who am I?

What is going on?

Every question came to my mind as I lay still under a shield of darkness, protected from anything that comes at me. I wish I won't wake up, that I can join my mother in her darkness so I don't have to be alone.

My body becomes lighter, the darkness is starting to dissipate, but why? This feeling of warmth, what could it mean?

"Please wake up, you need to wake up, Rina. I need you, your mother needs you." Conrad's voice ripped through the darkness and brought with it a generations worth of light back into my sight.

"C-C-Connie? Mom?" Conrad's eyes are filled with salt water, his cheeks stained with previous tears. He shook his head, meaning only one thing.... "She's gone. I'm so sorry. They said she overdosed on some pills she took, but they found this note crumpled in her hand. its addressed to you." Conrad hands me the ball of paper and I open it, my body still laying in Conrad's arms.

"The note says, 'I'm sorry sweety, but I have to leave you now, I have money saved up in my underwear drawer for you and I am putting your father's address on this paper. I want you to find him and take care of yourself ok? I'm sorry Zori, but I just can't live with myself anymore.'" I read the name and address of my father on the bottom lines, my eyes widen in surprise.

"What is it?" Conrad looks at me, suspicious.

"Harper, he's my dad...."
