                                                                                       Kyle's P.O.V

I sighed heavily as I dragged my legs up the dreaded school steps. It's fall, that time of the year where school starts, and the cold returns driving out the warmth. Each step felt heavier as I neared the tall, massive building. People looked at me and waved. I walked up to my locker and shoved in the things I didn't need. Slamming the locker shut, I faced another girl. Or should I say whore? She wore something like a bra and booty shorts with tons of make up. Shouldn't the teachers make her change?

"Hey there Ky ky." said the whore.
"Umm I'm gay." I tried to tell her nicely.
"I know but let's still have some fun." she purred.
"Get the hell away if you know what's good for you." I growled. I had enough of this bullshit.
She scoffed and ran off with her ass swaying. "Thank god this is my last year." I muttered to myself. I know that was mean, but seriously everyone knows I'm gay yet doesn't care, and flirts with me! I spun around quickly, walking to class. So engrossed in my thoughts, I didn't notice where I was going and bumped into somebody. I groaned internally, I'm such a klutz!
"Sorry!" I echoed hastily. I looked up to meet beautiful brown eyes.
"Get up you mute freak!" a guy yelled.
I noticed two guys bullying the 'mute kid', yes no one knows his name, and the teachers never really call on him. He was attractive, built, and tall. Yet he never fought back. Everybody made fun of him, even freshman kids. They thought he was weak, no one really knows.
"Stop it right now." I warned them firmly.
"Or what?" the guy sneered.
Oh great, the first day of school and the drama along with trouble return like an old friend. He may have been bigger, but I was strong.
"Look, it's the beginning of the year and I don't want to fight." I stated cautiously.
The guy swung at me, and I dodged effortlessly. I kneed him, knocking out all the air in his lungs.  Then, I threw my arm back as I punched them square in the face. Blood dripped from his nose to chin. He ran with his friend in fear. That escalated quickly!
"I told you!" I shouted at them. "Are you okay?" I asked, looking back at the victim. He nodded getting up and running to class. I sighed again, well so much for that.
I started to walk again to class. Looking at the familiar faces, dark circles under their eyes, and their body's moving like a zombie. I shuddered at the zombie thought. I finally entered the class and saw my best friend.
"Kyle I missed you so much!" Allison called out.
"Girl, I saw you yesterday!" I laughed out.
She grinned, "Come on, I miss you every second!"
I grinned back at her with the same goofy face. Allison is my best friend, she's always there for me. After that one incident, I never was really myself until I met her. Alli practically knows me, well not all of me.
All of my worries vanished replaced with joy and happiness. I turned around and my eyes landed on 'the mute kid'. He held his gaze on me and  I looked away, biting my lip; an old habit. I wonder what goes on in that head of his. And why does he keep starring and watching me?! The room suddenly got a little warmer, or was it me?
"What's wrong, Kyle? You're biting your lip, which means that something is up." she pointed out, interrupting her friend's conversation. Damn this woman for knowing me so well!
"What? Nothing really." I lied with a smile. She eyed me suspiciously and went back to talking. Allison loves to gossip, and I don't blame her. After all, this school basically screams the word drama.
"Did you guys hear? Another kid is missing! They think it's the work of the gang, The Regulars!" her eyes went wide.
The Regulars, a legendary gang, very dangerous, sells drugs, does kidnappings, and has fights all the time. I whip my head around to see the mute kid staring at me with those mysterious eyes. They start to burn a hole in my head. He sees me looking and looks away this time instead. The whole class I daydream about him. No not like I'm in love with him! Jeez.
After getting through most of the day, I already had assignments. I mean, what is wrong with these teachers. It just the first day of school and they're giving us homework!
The scent of school food blasted at me as I opened the cafeteria doors. Loud chattering, laughter, and bustling were all happening at once. Old friends talking about their vacation, reuniting. I sat down at our old table far away from the rest, near the corner with Alli.
"Hey!" I said exaggerating my voice.
"Heyy." she said in the same tone.
We started talking about our schedule about school when the Perfs came up to our table. The jocks fist pumped and noogied each other. The cheerleaders were giggling in their short skirts and shirts. Everyone looked at me, knowing what was about to happen. I knew what they wanted, like every year, every lunch.
"Kyle, you wanna sit with us?" Kayla, the captain of the cheer team asked. Her eyelashes batted violently and her cleavage clearly in my face. I shook my my head giving them my superior, dazzling taking no prisoners smile a.k.a The Kyle Smile. Some girls sighed, or fan-girled.
"Sorry guys, I like sitting and being with my friends."
In the past they did something that I could never forgive them for. I wasn't going to sit and be friends with them. The guys shrugged, the girls pouted, and everyone went back to their normal lunch. I saw some girls eyes linger on the jocks, they knew they were players, but still longed for them.
I flipped my hair. I was fairly popular, but I wasn't going to use it to my advantage. The girls giggled and squealed when I flipped my hair. I breathed out a long breath and  threw my trash away. The bell rang and everyone ran to class.

~End of school day~

I rushed out and pushed the school doors wide open, getting fresh non-humid-stuffy-sweaty air. I grinned up at the vast, blue sky.
"Hey Kyle, wanna come over?" Alli shouted.
"Nah, next time!" I yelled with my hands cupping over my mouth.
She nodded, got in her car, and drove away. I plugged in my ear phones and put up the volume, oblivious to my surroundings. So oblivious I didn't hear the foot steps behind me, moving quickly. I stopped and looked behind me, my eye brows scrunching. I shrugged and kept on going. I pulled out one of my ear phones, speed dialing my mom.
"Mom, I'm almost home, I'm just going to the park. Don't worry I'll be home by the time the sun sets." I told her.
"Alright sweetie, be safe." she responded without a hint of worry, I was a 'big boy' now.
I took a walk around park and swung on the swings. I still remembered when dad would push me as hard as he could on the swings, play hide and seek, and chase me, being the 'monster'. But, in the truth I was the monster and after he found out what mom was adding on to what I was. I never saw him again.

Flash back~

"You are all freaks!" he shouted cursing at mother.
"Get out then!" she cried out, nearly sobbing. I walked out near daddy and he flinched taking a step away.
"Daddy?" I whispered, softly.
He pushed me away towards mother, "Get away from me!" he hissed. I whimpered. Mother held me close to her and daddy got his stuff. Never looking back at us, that was the last day I ever saw him.

Flashback end~

Mom never explained what really happened in detail, but as I grew older I understood. Recollecting myself from a horrible memory, I noticed that the sun was setting.  I jumped off the swings feeling stares again, the same feeling from the mute kid. I walk home hearing foot steps behind me, making me walk a little faster. Still I hear footsteps so I ran by now, my legs screaming Slow down! I started to pant; I didn't want to look behind me. Who was behind me, and why are they chasing me? I ran, and saw my house in view. A wave of relief came over me, but before I could even reach my house, I'm tackled and drugged. I look up to find six boys looking down at me; one of them was the mute boy saying

"Welcome to the gang."

Then everything goes blurry and finally dark.
