The Madness Within ✓

XXXIII.

We tried grabbing the dead body of the creature and moving it, but it was too large for us to move it.
„What do we do now?" I asked Chris, shaking my head as I stared at the creature.
So, killing the creatures in houses is easier, but it's impossible to get rid of them afterwards.

„If we can't move it, then.. I think we'll have to leave the house. The body will probably begin to stink after a while, so we shouldn't stay here for too long," Chris replied and sighed.

„But where do we go?"

„I'm.. not sure. Let's pack some things and walk around the forest for a while, we can return later if we come up with anything."

We went to change and pack some things, such as food and clothes. It was a shame that we had to leave, especially when we had nowhere else to go. But all we can do now is hope for the best.
I grabbed my backpack and put some food and water into it. I also took some knives from the kitchen and put all of them in the backpack, while I kept one in my pocket. I'm sure that having multiple ones will be helpful in the future.
Having better weapons would come in handy, too. Maybe another axe, or.. a gun. A gun would be great. The creatures that we have to face are terrifying, but if I had a gun.. that would be a different story. That is.. if I knew how to shoot from a gun. But I could learn pretty quickly, especially in this life-or-death situation.

Once I was done with packing, I walked to the hall, where Chris was already waiting for me.

„Are you ready?" Chris asked, to which I nodded. But as he was about to open the door, I remembered something.

„Wait! Let's take the statues, too. If they play music whenever we're near one of them, it might come in handy."

I ran up the stairs to the library and walked to the table with the statues. But when I walked there, I noticed something strange. There were small bits of a statue scattered on the ground. I quickly counted the statues. There were only 10.

We had 12.. we killed 2 creatures..

..do the statues destroy themselves once a creature that it 'belongs to' gets killed?

I grabbed the statues from the table and put whatever I could fit into my bag, then walked down the stairs and handed the rest to Chris. Chris put the rest to his bag, then looked back at me.

„How many did you bring?"

„There were only 10. 2 of them are gone. Because we killed the creatures," I explained, to which Chris nodded.

„So that's how it works."

„Yep."

After that, we left and got into the car. We don't know where we'll go, but I guess it doesn't matter in the end. As long as we stay within the forest, we'll be fine. The creatures probably wouldn't even let us leave in the first place. They are after us. They'll come to us when they're ready.
Chris started driving through the forest. Music blasted in the car as we talked about the creatures together, wondering what to do next and what to improve on.

We now knew their weakness, which was a good thing and an advantage for us. Another advantage that we have is that they like to show off. All this time that they lived in the forest, they tried to scare people away. They haven't attacked anyone for a long time now. They have the other creatures for hunting food, if they even need food. Or sometimes they even get sacrifices from the village or whatever. They killed my grandma, so they definitely know how to kill, but they don't practice it that often.

So maybe.. maybe it'll be fine. Maybe we'll kill them quickly and easily. And then we'll be able to leave this place altogether.

I looked outside of the window and watched the forest, slowly drifting off to sleep while doing so. Until I saw something move in the distance.
