8) Alliance

Leafy's POV

     Ever since the coconut left Firey and I alone, we wandered around to see the potential of this new place. We cracked jokes and had brainstorms about what could become of this new Dream Island. It felt thrilling!
     "Hey, Leafy, I'm gonna go check out the lake nearby, see if anybody's there." Firey glanced over to me as I smiled a bit, replying, "That's okay, just make sure you don't fall in! I'll go check the cave over there!" I pointed to a clear part of the forest, containing a little rock with a hole protruding from the ground.

     "Alright, see you later!" I only heard his footsteps as I raced towards the cave, brushing my hand cautiously against it's rough exterior to avoid scraping myself. I glanced around, picking up sticks and rocks to build a temporary shelter, when I heard a voice.
     "Hello? Is anyone there?" The voice sounded raspy, yet smooth at the same time. I held my breath, staying as still as possible. "Hello?" More footsteps were heard, and they were getting closer. I gulped in a breath of fresh air as I turned around. The cave's dark interior now had two glowing yellow eyes. The figure slowly stepped out...

     It was another plant object! They seemed to be a fern leaf of sorts, with unnaturally thin limbs but bright and healthy eyes. "Oh, there you are! I knew I heard someone here!" I sighed, fixing my stressed posture as I hopped over. "Thank goodness, I thought there was something dangerous! I'm Leafy, hello!" I held out my hand for a handshake, the other leaf happily returning the gesture. "I'm Fern Leaf, but you can call me Fern!" Her voice was melodious, almost like she was always ready to burst into song, her soft indescribable accent adding to the comforting tone.
     It was beautiful.
     "You okay there?"
     "Ah! Sorry, got lost in thought-" Fern gently gripped my wrist to calm me down; her texture was smooth, but rough, her bones able to be felt through her skin. "It's okay. Would you like to rest in the cave? You seem hungry." I stared hesitantly before proceeding to nod, giving a warm smile. "Thanks Fern. I suppose this is like an alliance now?"
    
     "An alliance? That sounds like a perfect idea!" The fern leaf smiled as she held my hand, although our fingers didn't interlock, as I was ushered happily into the cave. "I can't wait to tell you about some stuff, there's a lot I have to get out of my chest from being here so long." Her voice wavered from exhaustion as she sat me down next to a pile of sticks. "That would be exciting!" I chirped, my voice unintentionally cracking, as we sat next to each other and yapped away.
    
     This was going to be a great alliance.
