22) Dancing (💟)

💟We interrupt this plot to give you two leaves that slowly fall in love.💟

Leafy's POV

Fern, Firey and I were resting in a part of the island surrounded with trees and bushes. It was cramped, but comfortable. We haven't reached the group yet, stopping a ton of times to make sure Fern wouldn't pass out from exhaustion or to eat and drink.
Firey stretched his arms as he glanced up. "It's hard to see the sky from the trees, Leafy.. You sure this is a good resting spot?" I nodded, replying, "Yeah! We're only gonna be here for a few minutes!" I then turned to look at Fern, who was leaned against a tree.

I walked over, now noticing how tired she looked. Her eyes were drooped low, and her posture was waving. "Hey, Fern?" I gently tapped her shoulder, which made her only look up at me without a word. "You okay?" The question came out way more soft than I intended, but that seemed to be a good thing, because Fern gave a little smile. "Heh, yeah.. just haven't done this much walking in so long..."
I felt my eyebrows furrow in thought as I helped Fern get into a comfortable posture without leaning on the tree. "You wanna do something to help exercise?" Fern seemed to think for a few seconds before nodding. She then got confused when I began to grab her hands and step sideways.

"What are you doing..?" Fern looked up at me, a shocked expression on her face. "Uh, dancing? It's a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time!" My answer didn't seem to satisfy her enough, however, as she looked at the grassy floor beneath us. "I.. forgot how to dance."
And so we spent our break time slow dancing, listening and teaching the steps and when to turn. Our only light source besides the soft afternoon sunlight was Firey as he sat and watched the two of us. It felt comforting to see Fern's cautious yet swift motions while I felt her thin and rough hands being surrounded by my own.

We ended the dance after a few more minutes, giggling and smiling. Fern was still slightly shaky, even from the little amount of energy used, but was happy. Firey gave us a small applause, smiling. "That was good for a refresher!" I saw Fern smile at his compliment, which made me smile back in response. We stayed a while longer at the resting spot before leaving again.

As we ventured through the forest, I noticed that Fern didn't let go of one of my hands.
