The sound of the tattoo guns buzzing filled the room, the three friends waiting shortly until they were tended to. Going to a separate room as they began to prep the skin for the ink.
The first one to go was Persephone. She had insisted the whole ride here. She laid down on her side, her fingers holding the fabric of her top up as some of her under boob slipped up, giving the artist more room to work.
It was only a half an hour till Seph was done. Surprisingly she held her pain pretty well, but unfortunately due to the scars that lined her arms as well, Lia couldn't help but be slightly melancholy at the situation.
The design the three had landed on happened to be a butterfly. All for different reasons.
Persephone had told the group that she always wanted one because after her aunt passed, butterflies seemed to follow her everywhere she went. It was a nice memory for her as it was a way to remember the woman who impacted her so greatly.
As for Noel, he wanted one because it reminded him of Persephone. The two had became friends shortly after Lia and Seph's friendship came to an end, the duo learning more and more about each other as the years rolled on. Apparently the platinum blonde would shut up about the butterflies or her experience, altering the boy's view on the insect. It represented how sweet and beautiful she was, the girls emotions delicate and could be crushed by any slight impact.
But for Lia it was two things. She remembered when those with self harm were getting tattoos of butterflies on their wrists, preventing themselves from harm as to not kill the winged animal. But the other reason was how frail your relationships with the people around you could be. As one mistake could leave your bond irreversible.
Li had never gotten a tattoo before. She hadn't thought too much about it but quickly gave in when suggested. Her body squirmed throughout the whole process, the feeling of the gun penetrating her skin with the dark ink. But at the same time the pain felt like euphoria, the girl being a year clean of self harm but still addicted to the feeling.
Once done, the three of them drove to the beach with a box of pizza for Lia and Noel, and a Açaí bowl for Persephone. The waves crashed against the sand, the moons reflection casting down on the water as Seph danced through the water, the girl always fascinated by the earths creations.
"Guys!! Come in! The waters nice." She called from her spot, Noel and Lia giving each other a look that said they weren't going to listen to her. The two continuing to eat their greasy beach pizza as the other blonde twirled in the water in amusement.
The night was fine. Great even. But every time Lia's mind started to wander she couldn't help but think back to Liv. About them on this same beach. Their memories, what they would say to each other, their most intimate experiences. And that was enough to make the girl no longer hungry. Her eyes now laying on Persephone as she finally ate her food, words spewing out of her mouth as Lia blocked it all out.
Wallowing in her own self pity.
