"Leave them alone Thomas, they are left here for a reason," said the tall man, looking down at one of the children, that were laying in a basket, on the street.

"These children were left by their parents, the second they were born," Thomas answered,
"But you don't know if the parents actually had a reason to leave them"

"Oh Thomas, you have always been a softie. There are children left everywhere in this part of town"

He was right. There were the rich people in this kingdom. They owned big shops, and had great lives. But then there were the poor. Living of prostitution and illegal deals. A lot of women had unwanted children, and when the children were born, they got left on the streets.

These two men, Charles and Thomas, were working for the the former king. Charles was his counsellor and Thomas was Charles right hand. The king had recently died in battle, leaving his only one year old son to be the next king, but since he was too young, Charles and Thomas, were to rule the kingdom temporarily.

"I just had an idea," Thomas said.

"What now?"

"What if we gave these children work... Maybe at the castle"

"You do realize that these children, are way too young to work anywhere," Charles answered

"Yes, but... We could... I don't know... Adopt them. Then when they are older, they will be trained in sword fighting and other similar matters.

"That is actually a good idea. Hmm... I will consider it. "

And Charles did. Only a week later, he and Thomas were choosing which children they wanted to be the future kings "royal guards." That was the name they had invented for this kind of guards.
They wanted to choose children that were strong, and healthy. At least as much as these children could be.

They found nine girls, that were looking fine. They would be able to survive.
The girls that were left in the streets, always were a lot healthier, than the boys.

Charles and Thomas brought them to the castle. They hired a "mother" for each of the girls, and a teacher, who would teach them swordsmanship.
They girls would grow up only knowing these two people, seeing a few servants here and there, but only really knowing these two, until they were old enough to meet the prince, who would become their king.

Each girl would also be an experiment. The kingdom had recently discovered a way to manipulate genes, and the girls would be the testing subjects. They would change the hair colors on the girls, and the girls would be named after their hair color. That way no one at the castle had to learn their names, and they would not grow too big of a personality.

They decided to have a girl with blue hair, one with purple hair, one with violet hair, a green haired, one with white blond colored hair, a red head, one with black hair, one with yellow hair and one with brown.

They planned these girls future completely. They would immediately learn to talk, and walk and all the usual a baby would learn, but they would also learn proper manners for one who was to live at a castle.
At age six their school would begin. They had the academic part of school, but they also had to learn about weapons and fighting.
At age ten they would begin using actual deadly weapons.
When they turned twelve, the nine girls would finally get to meet each other, and at age fourteen they would meet the prince whose name was Atticus.

The project began. All nine girls survived the gene manipulation. They moved into a part of the castle, where they would be living the first ten years of their lives.
