Chapter 4- Murderous gazes

“God, if looks could kill!” Carly remarked. I snapped out of my shaken stupor and followed her gaze. Tania Evans (the girl I’d stuck my middle finger up at earlier) was standing in the dinner queue, conversing rapidly with her cronies and shooting me evil stares.

There was only one word for her uniform- tight! Her cleavage was clearly visible as she crossed her arms in her strop. When she saw I was now looking, she smiled falsely and brought her hand up high... and she flipped me off. Just like I had done to her. How incredibly original. Oh well at least I could have fun with this one.

Without even thinking, I put up my middle finger and popped it in and out my mouth a few times (basically pretending to give oral sex), which is the rude British indication of “fuck off, you’re a slag.”

Tania’s mouth dropped open and her cronies gasped. Ahh, it was so easy to piss posh totties off. I smiled before looking down at my plate of untouched dinner and sighing. There was no way I could eat; not when I’d witnessed some sort of dodgy teacher seizure which left me feeling rather scared.

“Wow, like you rock! Seriously, what’s with you and the simple rude hand gestures? They totally work though!” Carly said, laughing with Danielle. I couldn’t help but laugh too.

“Actions speak louder than words, my friends,” I replied.

When Chloe and Danielle had finished their dinner and I had poked it around the plate enough times, we made our way to our dorm. We sat up talking for a while until my mind was begging me to go to bed so it could contemplate the events that had happened earlier with Mr. Ferron. I gave in.

An hour later in bed and my mind showed no sign of resting. I kept replaying the incident over and over again in my head, scrutinizing every damn detail I could. How Mr. Ferron’s eyes definitely got darker during our encounter, how his voice got huskier and how these small details scared the crap out of me. I wasn’t going mad- that wasn’t a seizure, it was... Well, that was the thing. I had no idea what it was but it sure wasn’t normal.

I checked the time on my mobile- 10:20PM. I knew I wasn’t going to get to sleep. Danielle and Carly were fast asleep which I knew from the faint snoring which travelled through the room. They wouldn’t know if I just sneaked out, would they? I rolled out of my bed and tiptoed over to my suitcase. Inside it, I managed to find a pair of black skinny jeans and black T-shirt so I took them in my hands and crept over to the bathroom. Black for camouflage- I took breaking the rules very seriously!

I got changed and then stared at my face in the mirror. Hey, call me lame but it was something that I just had to do every time I went to the bathroom. My blue eyes were no longer the dull bored eyes that I saw in the mirror this morning; these eyes were wide with knowledge and fear. However, if anyone caught me out tonight, it would be the avid twinkle in my eyes that would have given me away. Or my ostentatious red hair, one of the two. I left my hair out to hide my face as I sneaked out the bathroom, seizing my door keys on the bedside table, before slinking out the door and shutting it silently behind me.

I decided to explore the outside of the school building, seeing as the last time I went exploring the actual inside, I nearly shat myself. I followed the corridors until I saw an Emergency Exit sign on one of the doors. I took a deep breath and pushed on the handle and stepped out into the cold winter breeze.

I was right next to a forest. I didn’t even know the school was this near to a forest! All I knew from my car journey was that the place was in the middle of nowhere. Ok, I’d gotten over my fear of old buildings now but this whole forest thing was surely going to be my next big phobia.
