Emily answered the phone call for the fourth time that day. She was feeling under the weather and her husband, who was currently in the States, had been checking up on her despite the time difference.
"Hello, Marco?" She answered and sighed.
"Kumusta ang pakiramdam mo, Mahal?"
"Sabi ko naman sayo, ayos lang ako. Wala na akong lagnat simula kahapon. Masakit na lang ang ulo ko."
"I know pero hindi lang ako mapakali dito. Wala kang kasama diyan sa bahay para may mag-alaga sayo."
She rolled her eyes as if he could see her. "Marco, kasama ko naman si Perla. Nandito rin naman yung ibang katulong atsaka dumalaw rin naman si Johanna kanina."
"Pero si Perla, nakatutok kay Daniel."
She sighed. "Marco, lalong sumasakit ang ulo ko dahil sa pinag-aawayan natin."
"I'm sorry. Alam mo naman na lagi akong nag-aalala kapag nagkakasakit ka."
"Ayos lang ako, okay? Uuwi ka na rin naman sa makalawa."
"Okay, but promise to call me if bumalik ang lagnat mo."
She nodded. "Pangako."
The call ended and Emily took another pill to halt the incoming headache. She appreciated her husband's gesture, but sometimes, he goes overboard when he's worried.
Two days later, Marco came back from his business trip. He walked inside the house and found Johanna having a snack in the dining room.
"Johanna! Anong ginagawa mo dito?" He had to ask because Johanna had her own family to take care of and she would only be in the family home if they needed a favor from her or they're celebrating something.
His daughter greeted him with a hug and a buss on the cheek. "Welcome home, Dad."
"Ang Mommy mo atsaka si Daniel?"
"Daniel is doing his homework in his room. Si Mommy umalis."
His brows creased. "Umalis? Saan nagpunta?"
"Wait… hindi kayo nag-usap ni Mom?"
"I was on a 16-hour flight. My phone was off. Saan ba siya nagpunta?"
"Dad, kaya ako nandito kasi sabi ni Mom samahan ko si Daniel until you get home."
"So pumasok ang Mommy mo sa opisina?"
Johanna nodded. " Wait! Which office are you asking?"
"Hindi kita naiintindihan, Johanna."
"Mom left this morning. May emergency sa planta ng Guidotti Imports sa Italy so she booked a flight and left."
"Ano?" Johanna nodded to confirm. "Eh kakagaling lang niya sa sakit! Bakit mo pinayagan?"
"Dad… really? You're asking me that? She's stubborn like you! Besides, I thought you two talked to each other. She's your wife, not mine!" His daughter sarcastically said.
Marco sighed and checked his phone if he missed any messages from his wife, but there was none. An incoming headache was about to ruin his day and the jetlag wasn’t helping either. He went to their bedroom to get some rest but before he could, he sent a lot of messages to Emily to let her know that he wasn’t pleased at what she did.
Emily arrived in Italy at midnight. The flight wasn’t eventful and all she could do was to sleep and think of a plan for her company once she got there. She arrived at the family home and settled herself inside the bedroom. She checked her phone and saw around 20 messages from her husband.
