"Hello?" The voice tried again.
Dustin snatched the walkie talkie from Steve as quickly as possible. "Hello?" Dustin asked.
"Dustin?" The voice said.
"Lucas?" Dustin began to smile.
"Yeah?" The voice replied. Basically confirming that it was, indeed, Lucas.
"Lucas!" Dustin yelled in excitement and relief.
"What?"
"Where's everyone else?"
"Why?"
"Just answer the question, Lucas!"
"Okay, fine!"
For a moment the room was filled with nothing but the sound of the walkie talkie static. Then, the noise went away.
No static.
No noise.
No nothing.
Just pure silence.
And it wasn't the silence that anyone likes, either.
It was that kind of intimidating silence.
They were waiting to hear from people while trying to save the world. How long could they wait here until something happens? Something bad.
What if the Russians find out where they are. What if they try to take them again? Try and kill them again?
Maybe even worse.
What if the Russians actually did it? With success?
What if they successfully took them? What if they successfully killed them?
The sound of the static coming back killed the silence and the negative thoughts.
"Dustin?" A new voice came through.
"Max?" Dustin said.
"I believe that is my name." Replied Max.
"Okay, thank God." Dustin sighed. "Do you know where Mike and Nancy are?"
"Hey." Said another new voice.
Mike.
"Mike! Where's your sister?"
"Hello?" The last new voice said.
Nancy.
"Okay, so what exactly is happening?" Asked Max.
"Russians." Replied Dustin.
"Russians... what?" Lucas echoed Dustin.
"Russians that are trying to take over the world."
"What?" Nancy asked, sounding unamused.
"It's hard to explain," said Dustin. "Meet us at Family Video."
"When?" Asked Mike.
"Now."
"Now?"
"Are you deaf? Now!"

"But why would they want to open the gate?" Nancy asked with her elbow resting on the counter and her palm resting on her forehead.
"Well apparently the failed last time, so the obvious choice would be: try again." Replied Mike.
"Yeah, but, what Nancy was saying," Max turned to look at Nancy, then shot a glance at everyone else. "Why?"
"Well, they're evil, so, I think that sums up everything pretty well." Steve shrugged.
"They're evil?" Robin echoed. "That's why they're doing this?"
"Pretty sure!" Steve replied.
Robin scoffed.
"I think they know." Lucas said, scowling at the paper. He looked at the three last words over and over again.
Open the gate.
Open the gate.
Open the gate.
Open the gate.
"About what?" Alex said, starting to get a little creeped out.
He looked up at the blonde girl.
"The demodogs."
