The air was electric as Bucky and Jaige slipped out of the facility, the tension of their narrow escape fueling their every move. Sirens wailed in the distance, a grim reminder of the urgency of their situation. They had only moments before the full weight of CIA security would come crashing down on them.

"Over here!" Bucky urged, his voice low but insistent, as he led Jaige toward a secluded area where a small plane awaited them. The darkened hangar loomed like a fortress, its shadows hiding the risks they faced.

"Are you sure this is safe?" Jaige asked, her brow furrowing as she glanced back at the entrance they had just fled. The fear of being caught gnawed at her, but she trusted him implicitly.

"It's the best option we have," he replied, glancing over his shoulder. "We need to get out of the country before they can track us down."

They quickened their pace, Bucky's hand firmly clasped around hers as they navigated through the maze of crates and equipment. Each footfall echoed their desperation, the reality of their choices settling in. Bucky's mind raced; the risks were high, but he couldn't let anything happen to her.

"James, what if they find us before we take off?" Jaige asked, her voice trembling slightly.

"We'll fight. I won't let them take you from me," he assured her, determination burning in his eyes.

They reached the plane, a nondescript model that blended into the surroundings. Bucky hurried to the door, scanning the area for any sign of danger. "Get inside, quickly," he instructed, his voice steady despite the turmoil within.

Jaige climbed in, her heart racing. Bucky followed, shutting the door behind them with a soft thud that felt both final and freeing. As he moved to the cockpit, he glanced back at her, his heart swelling with love and worry. "I can't believe you chose this. You could have stayed safe."

"Safe isn't an option if it means leaving you behind," she shot back, her gaze unwavering. "We're in this together."

Bucky nodded, feeling a swell of gratitude for her fierce spirit. He fired up the engines, the roar of the plane a comforting sound amidst the chaos. "I promise, we'll get through this. Just trust me."

Jaige leaned against the seat, her heart racing as the plane began to move. "Where are we heading?" she asked, her eyes locked onto him, searching for reassurance.

"Bucharest. I have a contact there who can help us lay low for a while," Bucky explained, his fingers dancing over the controls. "I just need to keep you safe."

Jaige's brow furrowed, but before she could ask anything further, the plane lifted off the ground. They were finally airborne, leaving behind the life they knew.

"Promise me something," Bucky said suddenly, his eyes focused on the horizon.

"What?" she asked, tilting her head in curiosity.

"Promise me you won't ever let go of my hand. No matter what happens," he said, the weight of his words sinking in.

Jaige smiled, her heart swelling with emotion. "I promise, James. I'll always hold on."

As they ascended into the sky, the ground beneath them faded away, taking with it the dangers and the fears that had haunted them. They were fugitives now, bound together by love and desperation, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
